Similar to humans, all other mammals exhibit the same brain activity during sleep. But the extent and nature of their dreams is another question. For obvious reasons, we cannot ask an animal the content of their dream.

Wow, that doggie has vivid dreams! Yes, they do dream. Only someone who has never had a pet would think they don't. I have always had cats and have also had several dogs, and you can see them dreaming of chasing something or other.
Cats don't dream as much as dogs, I think, because they sleep more deeply. Nothing is more beautiful than a sleeping cat.

animals do develop fear and other emotions that is not part of their natural instinct (like those that work in circus and animal shows, are afraid of trainer's whip maybe). That means their sub-conscious mind is active, so I guess that can dream,
