i just wanna point it: this isn’t about hot affairs outside a marriage and doesn’t necessarily have to be romantic.

I dont know, the way you summed up the OP, couldnt have much other to say.
Acha jee seriously, its obviously not necessarily about the extra marital affairs and all that, but I guess any legit relationship has a proper name already. Why make it dubious by having it unnamed/ untitled and all that (such a romantic thought itself, isnt it).

OK let us name all relationships one can think of
friendship, spouse, lovers, siblings, parents, colleagues, relatives, strangers, soul mates. So yes, most relationships can be assigned names. In some relationships, one or both are deluding themselves i guess. In the end, sab kuch maya hi maya hai.

strangers I think strangers are those people, we don’t have any relationship. Probably, you are talking of those strangers, who used to be dearest of all once upon a time. As poet says:

I think OP ji intended all relationships to have a name. By defining strangers as a relationship, it is a bucket in which undefined relationshipscan be unceremoniously dropped into.
The Hindi song I remember goes like this
Chalo ik baar, phir se, ajnabi bun jaen hum dono

but seriously, names are for convenience. the true nature of a relationship isn't always done justice to by a name.

It reminds me of my friends.................... they are or were (i don't know) very good or closed friends...... they shared their every problem with each other and regularly talked on phone for hours........... they had very good understanding.............. but they always said.......... "humari understanding aur friendship kitni achi hai we can't explain you, so don't ask us"... and people made their scandal..... i think due to their choice of words which was wrong
So in my opinion every relationship has a name.................... if it has no name it means something is wrong.......... fishy fishy.............

As a side note , I never been able to understand the names of relationships especially in Punjabi i.e. Sadhoo or Massi or Bharjayi etc etc . Its one confusing stuff and more you explain them it gets more confusing .
