DNS/Connectivity issue

Here is the scenario:

Until a few days ago everything was fine and dandy. But for the past 2-3 days i have had internet glitches. My firefox/IE browser stops responding to webpages, as if there is no internet.

I get Looking for www.paklinks.com or any other url, and then after attempting to load it, it fails and displays the page “Page could not be found”. The normal page you’d normally see when offline.

It does that for a period of 1-2 minutes, and then starts to respond again. I have run malware scanner/adaware, etc. Both have returned clean with no trace of any trojans/worms/viruses, etc.

Could a system restore cure the problem? What else should i try? I am very hesitant to reinstall windows again, but if that is the last resort. I’ll have to go that route.

Please suggest.

Re: DNS/Connectivity issue

set up ur primary dns on computer/router as:

208.67.222.222 and secondary as:

208.67.220.220 and report ur findings over 24 hrs usage like u normally would.....

[added] this is VERY first level of troubleshoot, if that doesnt do it for u, then we know it wouldnt be a simple thing such as ur provider's translation servers

Re: DNS/Connectivity issue

^^ are these Public DNS servers....

you can add 4.2.2.2 as well...

Re: DNS/Connectivity issue

Thanks guys. Will work with those, and let it run for a while. Will repost if the problem continues beyond tonight.

:salute:

Why does it/did it stop getting DNS automatically? Is there any underlying symptom/issue when this usually happens?

Re: DNS/Connectivity issue

yes.

they belong to opendns.org body and among the public servers with most invisible+forgotten setup, they are my favourite.. teggy’s symptoms are exactly alike when i use to use default ones that are given out by my ex-provider.. with them they never gave ‘page not found’ unless actual target source was unreachable

IF above servers are your solution, then its your provider’s service-level-issue.. and in my opinion, provider will NEVER admit to it, will make u run in complicated circles and end result will be crap, literally due to ur frustration u will find answer on the top of a toilet seat..

anyway, internet provider provides PHYSICAL means of access (u connect to isp, and isp is online with rest of internet) and then there are services of email, hosting, what not, and in background, translation/acquiring target machines based on names.. GENERALLY provider provides excellent ‘connectivity’ but not good email/hosting/translation-servers…

reasons maybe load, their staff in how they set things up (business competency) and well, sky is the limit..

IF using these public servers isnt the solution, then we will try looking at other things, but for now, this seems a good step, and hence this explanation..

sorry for mentioning toilet-seat.. thats where i am rite now :mocking:

Re: DNS/Connectivity issue

^lol

Thank you both. That solution did the trick, and i haven't had the issue again.

Now, do I leave it be or should i switch back to Auto DNS to see whether my ISP has it sorted now?

Re: DNS/Connectivity issue

i will say keep it .. its free, it works, soon u will forget that u had this in place.. thats the way technology should be.. invisible and forgotten
