DM Digital’s Manchester based offices were raided by immigration officers in a series of swoops, last week, according to Manchester Evening News.

The seven men were picked up from the studios of three of its channels - DM Digital TV, DM Islam TV and DM Digital World TV - headed by Dr. Liaqat Malik.
Five of the seven men were found at the studio in a five storey mill building sleeping fully dressed in two bedrooms in Turner Street of Manchester City Centre.
All are suspected of being illegal immigrants from Pakistan.
Two houses in Cheetham Hill were also searched as part of the operation by the North West Border and Immigration Agency.
*Manchester Evening News *also attempted to contact DM Digital but to no avail. A spokesman for DM Digital told the paper that they could not speak to Dr. Malik and it was not possible to get a message to him.
The 47-year-old father-of-two was struck off by a Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal in July 2004 after a Manchester Evening News undercover investigation revealed he had a criminal record for dishonesty and had previously been officially disciplined and banned from practising as a solicitor.
Dr. Malik was not at the TV station offices and refused to comment from his Rochdale home.
Dr. Malik was not arrested as part of the operation codenamed ‘Europteria’, but is expected to be quizzed about the immigration status of his staff during the course of the investigation.

I parked my outside TV station pay and display couple of day ago. It was a lot calmer and quiet than it usually is around there. wonder why?

LAWYERS have fought for almost 20 years to keep Liaqat Malik away from their profession.
Two serious disciplinary actions against him - including one in the High Court - have done nothing to lessen his determination to be a respected lawyer.
Today the 42-year-old father-of-two runs a prominent legal firm in Cheetham Hill, Manchester specialising in immigration.
His first taste of the law came when as a teenager Dr Malik used a forged A-level certificate to get on a law course at Manchester Polytechnic and to get a grant.
He appeared before Manchester magistrates on January 17, 1977 where he was convicted of forging educational certificates of a higher grade than obtained, of using the forged document and of dishonestly obtaining £335 in a grant for a law course. He was given a conditional discharge.
In 1980 he appeared at Manchester Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to obtaining pecuniary advantages by deception and breaching the conditional discharge.
He had used his A-level grades, which had been voided after his previous conviction, to get on a business course at Salford University and to get a grant.
He was arrested in London after failing to appear at court. He claimed he could not get there because he was sitting an exam elsewhere.
He was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and ordered to pay £835 to the Scottish Education department.
Two years later when Dr Malik was working as a legal clerk these convictions came to light.
The Law Society successfully applied for an order under the Solicitors Act of 1974 which banned him from working as a legal clerk without their approval.
In 1989 Dr Malik applied to the solicitors' disciplinary tribunal to have the order revoked.
The hearing was told that he felt the order damaged his reputation and business interests. By now he was a well-known, apparently successful member of the Asian community.
He said the order affected his business described as ''a chain of estate agencies''.
He said that he had stood as a local councillor for the Tories and that during the ''rough and tumble'' of electioneering, adverse reference had been made to it.
Tribunal documents state that Dr Malik said that since there was ''an absence of any prospect of seeking employment in a solicitor's office'' the order should be terminated. It said he had ''moved on''.
The order was lifted by the tribunal which said that because Dr Malik's ''career and intentions had developed in other directions'' there was no need to control his employment.
Yet, only a year later Rochdale Law Association reported Dr Malik to the Law Society for working at a firm with a solicitor who was suspended and another who did not have a practising licence.
The Law Society won a High Court ruling which ordered Dr Malik never to ''act as a solicitor, pretend or otherwise hold himself out to be a solicitor, use a name, title, addition or description, implying he is qualified or recognised by law as qualified to act as a solicitor''.
Soon afterwards he was the subject of a Greater Manchester Police Fraud Squad investigation. He was arrested but never charged.
In September 1992 he resumed his bid to be an accepted member of the legal profession and applied to be a registered foreign lawyer (RFL).
This applies to lawyers who have gained their qualifications outside the UK and are ''held in good standing''. There are limits to what legal work an RFL can do in the UK.
Dr Malik, who lives in a large house in Rochdale, was turned down for RFL status two months later. He appealed against the decision taking it to the Master of the Rolls. At the time he said he was a member of Punjab Bar Council. This also appears on the firm's website.
It was referred back to the Law Society and in September 1995 he applied again with no success. After yet another rejection in August, 1997, he appealed again to the Master of the Rolls and again was turned down.
But in 1999, the Rochdale Law Association was stunned to discover that, due to an apparent oversight, the Law Society had granted Dr Malik's application to be a foreign lawyer.
This allowed Dr Malik to work under the supervision of a Law Society-registered solicitor.
The Rochdale Law Association lodged a complaint against this but nothing was done. It wrote to the Law Society saying it was ''dismayed, horrified and let down'' by their decision.
The letter added: ''This association finds it unbelievable that [Malik] can be allowed to enter into a partnership with an English solicitor.''
In March this year the Legal Service Commission terminated his firm's legal aid contract.
A spokesman said: ''From March 2001 they could not take on any new legally aided civil or criminal cases. This is because they failed to meet the requirements for the civil contracts they applied for and the one contract they had for criminal cases was terminated in March 2001.''
This year Dr Malik became director of a new company Immigration Lawyers Ltd which offers legal advice for immigrants. In a newspaper advert the company claims it is registered with the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner.
A spokesman for the OIS said the company had applied to be registered but had not yet been granted approval.
Dr Malik, who has lectured at Salford and Manchester universities, has now passed his exams, which would qualify him to work as a fully-fledged solicitor

Khurram you are greatly misinformed. You don't get Halal food in the prisons of Britain because of this money making machine Dr. Liaquat Malik. He's got quite a scam going on with his DM Digital and sidekick Mehboob 'PAA'.

Muslim prisoners here have Imam's on hand for advice and get separate menu's for brekkie, lunch and dinner. The Prison Service in the UK has made it a requirement for all prisoners to be provided a diet which meets the requirement of their religion. They take complaints of any form of human right discrimination very seriously and a lot of Muslim prisoners have successfully in the past lodged complaints and won their case in the high courts.

In fact prison's here do so much for the minorities that you wouldn't be wrong in thinking that prisoners are on holiday rather than paying for their mistakes! For example, In Her Majesty's Prison Brixton, separate blocks of toilets were made so no prisoner would be aligining his backside towards Makkah.

Being fed pork, ham etc here is more of a result of foul play by prison chef's rather than the catering company.

U are greatly misinformed because he most definately did not fight for halal food in prisons.

Halal food is a dietary requirement that every individual in the UK has a right to and to not have that right violated by law, and its implementation became instrumental with the introsuction of the Human Rights Act.

Dr Malik is just an attention-seeker. I mean for goodness sake, do you see the owners of PTV or ARY engaging in such engaging ameturish behaviour to try and raise their profile?

I have read your mails on the forum. shocked to see you guys are using abusive language. Hey is this a personal vandetta. Why you guys only talk about Dr. Malik on this forum. Facinated with this website why so many taking great interest in this man so I looked into him myself.

Its true that Dr Malik and Mr. Kadri QC has gone to court for the muslims for halal foods in prisons an schools before the Human Rights Act came into force.

He was a member of the Immigration Law Panel - if it was not for him half you guys would not be here. He fought the establishment for the pakistanis rights and thats why all false allegations were trumped up against him.

If you read the link www.asianlawyersforum.co.uk you’ll see that evening news lied that it was their investigation which lead dr malik appearing before the solicitors tribunal 2004 - it was actually a dispute of lodging malik laws bills within the time limit. Evening news misreported dodgy claims.

Guess what his partner - white man called Declam Adams suspended for six months only from practice and dr malik struck - now thats what you call dodgy and racist.

High court ordered in april 2005 that legal aid pay £810,000 to dr malik - how come that was not reported by any of the newspapers! Have a look at the copy order from high court on Court Order

Immigration Officials deny DM Digital was raided as it was only an Official Visit.

The raid at the tv station was not a raid but a visit made by the immigration officials in early morning during Ramadam 2007 at the mosque of dm digital and some people were sleepng in next door building and they were brought out through the mosque. Manchester Evening News were waiting outside to take pictures and saying illegal immigrants had been arrested. In fact they were all released after a few hours. DM Digital TV has brought communities together such as mirpuris, sindhis, punjabis, shias, sunnis, whabbis - free to air channel and only channel where ordinary people get their voice heard - what more do you want.
