The MUA needs to know by sunday if I am booking her + she needs 50% of the amount as a deposit. I am just so much in doubt, I don’t know what to do. I am doing my own make-up and hair for the Nikkah and the Mehndi. I was thinking of getting a MUA for both the barat and the walima, but they’re hella expensive. $750 for barat and walima hair + make-up.
I just feel that it’s a lot of money that can be spend in other areas of the wedding, gosh I don’t know what to do. If theres anyone here who did their own makeup and hair, do you regret it?
Re: DIY vs Professional wedding make up.
Hair and duppata setting can be tricky but I know quite a few brides who did their own make up and they looked fantastic. Then again, they didn't go for a typically heavy and drag queenish make up looks you see Asian bridal magazines. They went for a very relaxed, toned down and natural look.
If you you have good enough skills and can brush up on few techniques, I'd say go for it. Practice creating few looks, take pictures and decide which one stands out.
Re: DIY vs Professional wedding make up.
why don't you just go to MAC? you're only obligated to spend $50 on products.
Re: DIY vs Professional wedding make up.
^Yeah.. Other companies like Estee Lauder and Chanel do makeup as well..
Re: DIY vs Professional wedding make up.
i would not add the stress of doing your own hair and makeup. Apparently you like the makeup by this artist (or you wouldn't have contacted her,) if you can afford it thn go for it....BUT if the money is tight go with MAC. I used MAC for my reception here in the US, got my hair done from Ulta salon which charged me $150 due to the length of my hair etc. I was running around making sure i was getting to places on time. I spend more thn the $50 required for MAC (bought the lipstick, eyelashes and one more thing i can't remember...) anyway i really don't think it was worth it. All that running around...doing my own duppatta setting and the added stress. DO you really want that on your wedding day ???
Re: DIY vs Professional wedding make up.
I did my own makeup and my mom did my hair. I thought I looked okay but then again, I just didn't care much. $750 is a lot to spend on makeup and hair, which is why I spent $200 and bought myself some good makeup and hair accessories. I got to play with makeup and got to keep everything I bought. Now I do other people's makeup because they think I am good at it. :D
Re: DIY vs Professional wedding make up.
I decided to do my own make up and hair. The trails have also gone a lot better then expected. I'm feeling quite confient that everyting will workout.
But ... I have decided to wear flowers in my hair on the barat (res roses) and the walima(some sort of pik fower) but I cannot figue out how to get the roses to stick to my bun and make the stay. Does anyone know?

Have you tried sticking bobby pins INSIDE your bun (underneath the flowers so they don't show) and somehow pinning the flowers in that way? On my nikkah day, I didn't have flowers in my hair but my MUA had a million bobby pins in my hair to make my bun stay put so I am guessing you may be able to work the flowers in in a similar way. Good luck! :)

I think they put U shaped bun pins in the roses and then stick it in the bun.
