DIY PC Build

Re: DIY PC Build

Didn't really knew VM was a possibility but time to go all out with 2x Intel Xeons and 64gb RAM.

I'd say that you use 970 as a placebo then upgrade to next gen HBM2 cards or go for 980TI if you don't plan on upgrading later.

Re: DIY PC Build

Thank you!

Re: DIY PC Build

Southie you disappoint. I thought you were tech nerd!

Re: DIY PC Build

Old tech!

Computers are a tool to get work done. Not a computer expert!

Re: DIY PC Build

Thank you all for your input. The build is done. Made some last minute changes. Went with a Corsair 110i GTX water cooler instead of air cooling. Installed Win 10 PRO x64. Have not played around with the settings to push for more muscle out of the hardware yet, but first impressions are promising. I almost ditched the Asus Maximus VIII Hero for VIII Extreme, but with the exception of OC Panel, I didn't see much value out of the board and it costs about twice as much. I'll try and just source an OC Panel II instead :D

Re: DIY PC Build

Can we get the prices for this and some picture, please brother @teggy

Re: DIY PC Build

Re: DIY PC Build

There are 2, 2-pin plugs for the front fan LEDs that I have not connected yet (seen in the last picture; gray plug sitting at bottom), because either 1. I didn't see the connector on the Mobo, or 2. I need to get a 2-pin to Molex so that I can plug them upto the Power Supply directly. But It's just LEDs afaik, so I'm not too rushed about it.

A good resource to see existing builds, and to put together a complete build including cost is pcpartpicker.com
It lets you put together a PC, and will show you best (generally speaking) prices from various vendors for the picked parts.

Re: DIY PC Build

Nice one teggy bruh!!

Re: DIY PC Build

Great build teggy bruh, Great Mobo and CPU combo, thats K series CPU :biggthumb: you have got a M2 slot on that Mobo, why dont you go with a M2 SSD ? that Samsung PRO 950 will saturate that SATA III port.

Re: DIY PC Build

Very nice build Teggy. I'm thinking of doing a PC as well. With Occulus shipping i need to get something together.
A few things I have on my list in addition to yours

  1. SSD would be the SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 256GB PCI-Express - PCI-Express would be so much faster than SATA III
  2. 65GB memory - With the prices so low might as well max out the RAM portion
  3. Heat-sink for the storage hard drives and then some fans to blow out the hot air. A cooler system is a very happy system. This bit would reduce the temperature inside by atleast 20 degrees during heavy I/O

Another option is to go with the Sony PS VR option and bypass this whole setup :D

Oh, forgot the replies:

No way! Can’t do any graphics or gaming, not enough hardware support… list is endless

I agree, this type of media is dead. Unless you’re watching movies, but I don’t see a reason for a writer.

I was past 16 about 10 years ago :)
