album review:
Well let’s start off with the first track, Chandni Raaten. This is an excellent song to start off with, having a nice easy going beat with the beautiful vocals of Arza that are some what intoxicating. This is an old song that has been sung several times, but Neo Khan blows the rest away with his production. The instruments Khan uses in this track go with Arza’s voice very well. This is a good song that might make the women a bit teary eyed, but who said music doesn’t move you?
Going on to the next tack, “Akhian Wich” by Tabassam. This artist has appeared in many albums on the Soho1 label and has succeeded in showing off her eerie yet unique voice. Production on this song is done well with Craig David’s Seven Days instrumental. Tracks like this almost never sound good, they’re usually awkward and if appropriate; hilarious, but once again Neo Khan has proved us wrong. I have one problem with this track; the way Tabassam switches the pitch of her voice in the beginning, and this makes it sound like someone else began singing in her place. Overall this song is good, but there’s always room for improvement.
Sub Tu Sohniyan, which is also sung by Arza, is a whole change of style from her first song; this shows the listeners she is capable of many styles. She tends to sound more traditional in this track, which is a good way to change styles for the album too. I don’t have much to say about this song since it is kind of repetitive. But beware; this tune is a seductive one!
The forth track “Laila” by Naghmana is very different. Even though I don’t know what she’s saying in this song except for a few words this song sounds really good. Her voice, the beat, and production work together extremely well, this track just shows how different Neo Khan’s style is compared to other artists.
Tabassam is brought back again in the track titled “Kandia Wich”. This song doesn’t do much for me; it is very slow and mono toned. The beat used is very old but her voice keeps this tune alive.
I guess Khan saved the best for last; this song is superb! Nishani by Rubella is a mind-blowing track with a predictable introduction. Not so much of a dance track as some may call it, but an upbeat energetic tune with beautiful positive lyrics to please the ones “in love”. I can’t really find the words to describe how good this track is, but I can tell you that I was very impressed.
This album is a change from the same stuff we’re used to hearing nowadays. Having these females boast their vocal abilities and prove that they are just as good, if not better than others was a smart road to take for Khan. This is a definite plus for all the females out there who are ready to take the next step in the music industry. Neo Khan’s obviously not a businessman; he’s an artist that is quickly carving his name in the industry. He seems like a producer who is concerned more about the number of people listening to his music rather than the number of copies soled. His previous albums are still on the top ten of my charts. Damn! This guy just keeps getting better and better. Overall I give this album a 9/10 for the quality and uniqueness in his selection of vocalists and music. If you appreciate good meaningful music that will move you mentally and emotionally, you will love this album, if you don’t, you still have your selection of dance albums.
