it doesn’t have to be in the month of Ramadhan but yes it’s widely practiced as this reminds people of the dues and it helps the poor for the eid preparations…people are more religious during this month than any other month.

i wasn’t saaHib-e-nisaab when i was a young man in India…so when i got my first job and started saving…i use the month i started making money and that was in the month of September for me it works well.

Ma sha Allah that you are sahib e nisaab now. I havent heard honestly that unmarried people pay zakat too. My limited knowledge! So how do you spend your Zakaat now?
