Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

^What about Richard the Lion Heart...........:D

Have you ever heard about chola kings from india who invaded srilanka.............?

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

Are you for real ?

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

Wow.

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

Steven Runciman the Brit historian describes Richard the Lion Heart perfectly as “he was a bad son, a bad husband and a bad king, but a gallant and splendid soldier.”

Yes. RajaRaja Chola annexed SriLanka and Maldives. But I am sure, the sri Lankans and Maldivians have not erected any statues to commemorate him in their country or named any of their weapon systems after him in admiration for conquering them :hoonh:

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

Was Richard The Lion heart an invader or not?

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

He was a British king who invaded Sicily, Cyprus and was also a crusader. Worse, he was a bigot . When he was crowned king, Richard barred all Jews and women from the ceremony, but some Jewish leaders arrived to present gifts for the new king. Richard's courtiers stripped and flogged the Jews, then flung them out of court. When a rumour spread that Richard had ordered all Jews to be killed, the people of London started killing jews. Baldwin of Forde, the Archbishop of Canterbury at that time reacted by remarking, "If the King is not God's man, he had better be the Devil's"

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

Did he invade mid east.....?

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

I think the word crusader in my previous post says it all. Yes, he fought in the middle east in support of his father's cousin Sybillia of Jerusalem's husband. He also fought and eventually negotiated with Saladin.

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

oh my bad....

but isnt crusader christian equivalent of Muslim Mujahidin...?

so i was confused weather you consider him invader or not...:D

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

which jew was offended here btw?? :hmmm:

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

Your statement was offensive to all the people who respect humans and human life.

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

Where exactly are you going with this discussion ?
Yes, it is fascinating to read about history of any kind and hope that we can learn from the mistakes. No ruler/king/invader of either side of war has come out of battle smelling of roses. They certainly did not have the concept of human rights that we have today. We can ofcourse acknowledge that so-and-so was a great king/ruler. Richard the Lionheart was a good soldier/knight but he was bad in everything else. Also while it is a fascinating read, why should we expend any emotional energy whether Richard-whatever-crusader fought whom-ever-Mujahidin in some far land centuries ago. We do not favour one warmonger over another. Condemnable atrocities were committed in the name of religion on both sides. We can clinically dissect the historical part and learn valuable lessons and ofcourse condemn the vile deeds irrespective of religion. If Richard had invaded the subcontinent, the issue would be different i.e more personal for us but he did not. So let the British have their hero, Richard, the M.E, have Saladin, the Indians have Raja Raja Chola and the Pakistanis have er.. Aurangzeb :biggthumb:. I would be more concerned if the British try to force the greatness of King Richard on other countries or if the ME, Sicily and Cyprus set up a fund for the promotion of glorifying Richard the Lionheart.

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

Whats distorted about chola kings?

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

There was a lesson in our class 3, dealing with the bravery of Saladin and forgiving Richard (Sherdil) when he was arrested :hehe:

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

Pakistani got Khushal Khan Khatak who fought against Auranghzeb. We have Porus, Raja Dahir, Hosh Muhammad Sheedi and many local heroes against these invaders.

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

I know a bit about Paurava(Porus), Raja Dahir but not about Hosh Muhammed Sheedi. Can you please open a thread where we can learn more about pak/desi heroes who united the people and fought invaders from outside the subcontinent and became legends/heroes/unsung heroes ? :)

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

Yes they do ! German kids know nothing but holocaust and 20th July plot
American kids think that civil war was about slavery and savage white men killed paeaceful innocent indians
in reality both educational systems are flawed in pakistan it by the far right media and in US /germany /UK by the far left ( anti-white ) media

Re: Distorted history taught in Pakistani schools

As far as I know, in India, nothing. But I am sure that he is not a favourite of the Sri Lankan and Maldivian history books :)
