Hi all, I am currently studying Business Information Technology at university, in my final year and have a project dissertation to complete. My project topic can cover anything ideally something with an business and or IT element. I have decided to look into knowledge management and how this is key in business, however i am finding it difficult to come up with an official title. The title i have so far ends with “knowledge equals power?” and i need some help establishing the rest of it. just wondering if anyone can help me or have some previous knowledge/experience in this area. thanks in advance!

Hi Umair,
I've just realised my previous title is a bit too broad and ideally I would like something more simple and specific. I have a few ideas/issues that are mainly based around either: the role of IT in supporting knowledge management – i.e how IT (networks, advancements of technologies) is used in maintaining KM etc, the knowledge driven economy - how knowledge is managed gloabally - maybe using technology etc, or is knowledge a central and strategic asset to IT firms? – looking into how IT firms use KM as a strategic tool etc. something along those lines anyway.

sairab, why knowledge mgmt.
depending on what u want to do later, i would recommend goign for something that is anindustry issue right now, use that as a basis for career prospects.
topics in teh realm of Business Intelligence may be of interest to you. Trde promotion mgmt, end to end data integration via master Data mgmt and EII to leverage data from different internal and external sources and systems to support fact based end to end processes.
lets say a CPG or consumer prodcust company can accurately see sales trend vis-a-vis competition and demographics and how the relate to promotions, teh company should have the capacity to use internal and external data, have it link with sourcing systems, with trade mgmt systems, space management systems, and of course financials, supply chain.
Its a huge, huge issue. just one small aspect of it in the form of trade pomotion mgmt is a hot topic these days although its so new that you may not find much case studies.
but there are some real industry issues that you can focus on, that would be instant currency.
KM is a good topic but has been beaten to death for the most part. atleast in the context that majority of ppl think of KM.

No point buying a project mate , if you haven’t done the literature review or research by yourself , You got to be an ivory-tower to appease your examiners in final presentation.

Have u gone through something like your Dissertation research title and dissertation hypothesis?
'The role of IT in supporting knowledge management ' is could a good title but still i cant see what you goning to prove under it .
Like my thing was some sorta like this : My title was Prospect of Islamic Banking in Republic Of Ireland .

I don't think Sairab is looking for a full fledged dissertation at the graduate level.
His post mentions a project dissertation for his final year coursework. I don't think he'd need to delve deep into the long-term viability of the topic or come up with propositions and research questions.

Hi there Umar..Firstly I would like to clarify I am a SHE not a HE...(my name is Saira) thats a first time I've been called a he, anyway you are correct, as stated previously I am in my final year of study and it is a project dissertation maximum words 10,000 no more no less. and it is worth 40% of my final year.
The aim of this project is for me to investigate into either a practical or theoretical based business information technology problem (could be any topic relating to business/IT), research information, conduct research/evaluation, draw conclusions etc etc you get the idea.

Due to the nature of my course I have decided to do a theory based project and have an interest in Knowledge Management, I am how can I say, still brainstorming topics to write about. With regards to the topics you stated :-
Have no idea what trade promotion management actually is.
Master data Management is a topic i have come across before, although my knowledge is limited in this area, I am currently researching more about MDM.

Saira Beti, there’s a huge scope on MDM in Pakistan and it is increasing due to the mergers and incorporation of new banks and the privatization of same in this country. The Bank I work for has spent 100 of millions on such developments. ISLAMIC BANKING in Pakistan is making waves–as aso declared by the State Bank–that y2k8 will be ISAMIC BANKING year in the country.
May I suggest you visit www.worldbank.org and search for what you are looking or–and I am sure you’ll get the required assistance. Also try the official website of the Govt of Pakistan’s Ministry of Science & Technology and the HEC (High Education Commission) of Dr. Ataur Rahman…who have walked many an extra mile–in promotion and dessminaton of Info Technology subjects/assistance in Pakistan.
