Dishonest Indian Army Officers

Indian Army is stationed in Congo as a part of UN peacekeepers. Now rather then contributing towards peace they are found involved in henious acts of gold trafficking etc.

================================================

Three Indian army officers have been let off with a warning over allegations of gold trafficking while they were UN peacekeepers in the DR Congo.

The allegations, first revealed by the BBC, were part of a wider investigation carried out by the UN.

A UN report said there was evidence that Indian troops in eastern Congo had traded gold and drugs with a militia involved in the Rwandan genocide**.**
The UN decided there was evidence for only one minor charge.

Some Indian soldiers were alleged to have traded gold with the militia, bought drugs from them and even flown a UN helicopter into the Virunga National Park, where they exchanged ammunition for ivory.

An accusation that three Indian officers had illegally detained and assaulted a Congolese trader for selling them fake gold dust was the only charge the UN decided had sufficient evidence.

Those soldiers have been let off with a warning.
**Critics of the UN will argue that this is exactly what they expected and proves that allegations, no matter how serious, seldom result in the disciplining of the troops under its command. **

Re: Dishonest Indian Army Officers

They should be disciplined strictly for their wrongful actions.

Saad please keep us updated on what disciplinary action is taken against the soliders involved. This kind of acts should not, under any circumstances be tolerated no matter who the peacekeepers are. No matter how connected the people involved are.

I agree with you Teggy. UN has peacekeeping forces deployed to grief stricken areas of Africa. Rawanda faced a worst genoicide for almost a decade resulting in almost complete destruction of one Ethnic group.

It is shameful that these Indian officers instead of providing peace to those that were almost wiped out by these atrocities , are making deals with those aggressors.

Smuggling, Drug trafficking, exchanging ammunition with these genoicidal forces for gold are few of many henoius acts committed by these Indian officers.

UN should not be lenient this time and should punish those that are responsible. After all UN has its reputation to keep, what if Indian army hasn't any.

So what did UN found out. How many of the indian soldiers were punished.
And is this only a Indian phenomena. Should I post some of worst crimes your country men in army uniform have done in UN peace keeping force. I pity you Saed!!!

Re: Dishonest Indian Army Officers

^ Rather then accepting the faults of these officers and condemning their crimes , you are almost agreeing with them. It is not a question of comparing one country with another and cursing as you don't agree with others but to condemn these awful acts commited by these Indian army officers.

Reaction from India

In response to the allegations the Indian High Commission in London told the BBC that the allegations over trading in gold were a “trivial case” and that the three soldiers concerned were being investigated by the UN’s Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS).
If found guilty, they would face disciplinary action, the High Commission said.

Reaction from Pakistan … incidently these officers were working with Indian bussinessmen and selling the gold to them … guess they had no trouble doing "trade"with Indians

When the BBC last year published the first allegations that Pakistan peacekeepers had illegally traded in gold, as well as providing weapons to some of Congo’s most notorious militia, the FNI, the reaction of the Pakistani authorities was one of denial.
In May 2007 the military spokesman at the time, Maj Gen Waheed Arshad, said the reports were “not only malicious but misleading and distorted” and without evidence.

The UN’s own report, dated 2 July 2007, which it has never published, concludes that the Pakistani contingent in Mongbwalu did indeed trade in gold with a group of Indian traders based in East Africa. The UN goes on to hold just one Pakistani army officer responsible for what took place. It is hard to believe that one single officer, based in an isolated Congolese village, could organise a trade involving an estimated $7m in gold passing through four countries, but that was the UN’s conclusion.

^ What about Indian Army, has it denied these allegation on its officers?? If not, then Indian army officers are culprits of these crimes, and should be made an example for the future peace corps.

In regards to Pakistani contingent ,you are qouting a year long story, where according to you Pakistani army already denied these claims.....

Re: Dishonest Indian Army Officers

^^ dont know how to read ?

hilarious and u believe them. How gullible.!!!

U are right Sad, Indians are morons .... they should have denied it like the Pakistani army and it would have been back to bussiness.

No Inidan officers are "criminals" here, that you should be dealt with on merit.

This post reaks of bias. Way to jump the friggin anti-India gun.

The UN itself says these are plain allegations. The only evidence they found resulted in 1 minor charge. Read:

As much as you might hate India, at least try to be fair in your hatred.

interesting! it’s amazing that how the same news can be interpreted on the basis of OUR interests.

Has Pak army ever recognized any mistake on the spot. It takes atleast 10 to 30 years after the crime is committed that some of your Generals (after retirement) or politicians accepts the truth. As it was in the case of Mussharraf asking mercy from Bangla citizens in 2001 for your soldiers' crimes committed in 1971.

And what is wronng in smuggling Gold? It is better than smuggled opium from Afghanistan.
