Search your hearts before replying, do you really know anything much **about the major religions in the world, their preachings, their teachings?
Yes, I do... all other religions except Islam **DENY the Prophethood of Sydena Muhammad (SAW) .. reason enough to take them out from the list of the best.
I believe almost anyone can claim to follow "the best religion in the world" as no one religion has a stranglehold on the truth or salvation. It depends on how you practice that religion that matters. And you don't need billions with the same exact religious beliefs to qualify as a religion.
IMO, any followers of an organized religion that demand strict, self righteous and exclusionary beliefs may be following a great religion, but their traditonal and myopic interpretations prevent them from practicing what could be called a great religion. No one organized religion can claim to be the best.
Religion serves as a guide to live in a civilized manner. Almost all major religions/sub-religions share many similarities with major difference being the amount of importance given to some prominent figures in history.
People practice religion they were born in so they blindly impose that they are right and others are wrong. If you pick any of the most religious people on this forum, they wouldn't be saying the same thing if they were born in a Jewish family for example.
^ I agree than many followers are imbrued with the teachings, customs and culture of the religion they are born into, following that religion with little thought put into it. After that, they refuse to think outside of the box and live within the box they were born in. At that point, they say "of couse Religion X is the true and only faith". Well of course that is going to be your belief if you were indoctrinated from birth.
Actually most true Hindus can answer this one very easily. It is Sanathana Dharma.
Like the way Lord Ganesha was able to go around the entire universe by going around his parents, Sanathana Dharma provides a number of human size capsules of wisdom that enable interested Hindus to understand all religions and philosophies.
One key point I would like to clarify - a religion is to be understood as a system of philosophies rather than limited common meanings such as system of God worship or rules of material living or mere social interactions.
One other point - Based on above, the reason I know Sanathana Dharma is true because it is the super set of all later philosophies that came. I wouldn't use the term 'superior' because how can you claim the body is superior to any part of it?
agree with this. But prefer to do away with the concept of religion itself.
I wish we could get rid of all religions altogether too, then there will be no more killings because of it but I don't think it will ever be possible to get rid of the thought of God from people's minds. So for as long as human beings are on this earth there will be some concept of religion.

Getting rid of religion will do nothing but inflame people even more. How is that going to change people's mentality? The issue at hand is TOLERANCE. people need to learn to understand the universal message of religion (Peace, be humble, do good in society and it will make you a better person, etc..etc..) More than often people that are up in arms about religion and 'USE' it for any reason other than peace, are found to be either lacking the knowledge and don't look beneath the surface of the person/faith they're attacking, or misinterprit, or just plainly are hypocrites that cherry pick rulings in the 'book' to fit their cause. If we can all just learn to get along, respect and tolerate, it'll go a long way and dissolve all the hostility that's present.
I look at it like this, i may critisize a person for his action (although that's bad too) but i will not point to his religion and say it's wrong because eye for an eye leads to a blind world. God forgives those who forgive others in this world, and do good.
