Discovery or Lack-of-knowledge??

We were gathered at a friend’s place when the owner of that apartment came in and we discovered that he is a nice fellow. It was as opposed to previous claims of our friend. The owner told us that it is not a discovery but it was lack of knowledge about him.

I feel confused about this. Should any invention be called a discovery or we just lacked knowledge before that time?

Re: Discovery or Lack-of-knowledge??

A discovery can be one in which you uncover knowledge that existed independently of your existence and your thought.

A discovery can also be a pure invention that was dependent on your existence and thought.

Although one can argue that even inventions come from God, and it is from God's knowledge which exists independently of our existence, and therefore it is also pre-existing knowledge that we stumble upon.

Therefore, discovery IS the gain of knowledge that we lacked but which already existed independent of our existence.

 I thought it was about the space shuttle discovery. Nevermind.

Re: Discovery or Lack-of-knowledge??

Space shuttles involve as many people as are involved in renting a house. Also for an average person, it is better to have a home than to land some scientist on the Moon. So every discovery is at least as important a discovery as landing on moon.
