Back in the 80’s, remember how Imran Khan discovered Waqar Younis? remember how he nurtured Wasim Akram? how he took them under his wings, and turned them into world class bowlers. He saw talent, recognized it, and polished it. As a result, the world saw two of the best bowlers it had ever seen.
Now fast-forward to the 00’s. Remember those 2 U19 bowlers Jamshed and Anwar Ali? the 2 guys who won us the 2006 U19 world cup with balls swinging yards?
Obviously, the missing link was a columbus like Imran. Talent was there, but nobody picked it, as a result we are letting it rot in our first-class system.
Indians should be given the credit for doing the right thing in their case. Munaf, Irfan and Sreesanth all are pretty much straight from their U19 system. All 3 are talented, and have the potential to become world-class.
History would have been so different if we had a genius like Imran Khan at the helm of affairs.
Re: Discovery of Talent: Where art thou, Imran Khan?
I have hopes from Mohammad Asif, :insha: he can do good not by just bowling but guiding the new bowlers, a skilled and disciplined person is what it takes! Let a new captain take over the team who would probably be less conservative and induct new bowlers then :insha: we will see their grooming!
Re: Discovery of Talent: Where art thou, Imran Khan?
Inzi is not a dictator rather coward and scared with experimentation. He knew if his team start loosing then his days are numbered. So he doesn't care for the future of Pakistan cricket rather concentrating on the present. Otherwise, Pakistan should have tested youngsters in home series, should have given chances to Samiullah Niazi in England, and should have used Fawad Alam in test matches when Yousaf was not available instead of trying Asim again.
Pakistan could have tested Yasir Arafat in the absence of Razzaq but either Inzi scared or protecting his loyal players such as Razzaq, Akmal, because if a youngster get a chance and performed then it will be hard to keep old gaurd in out of form cases.

I cud'nt have said it better, totally agree with u, Inzi & Co have always erred on the side of caution rather than take chances. But there is also a element of dictatorship for lack nof any other word, Inzi cannot tolerate leadership competition thus exit of Rashid Lateef and in/out policy for Shoaib Akhter. Other losers were Azhar Mahmood and all those domestic cricketers who cud have challenged Inzi's comatose captiancy.
Re: Discovery of Talent: Where art thou, Imran Khan?
Agree with the captaincy part. I am sure PCB is tolerating him and Akhtar till World Cup, after that we are going to see a long stick from PCB, which will include change in Captain and it may bring along changes in some players too.
