Discovering new food allergies by accident

I usually get my salad dressing from the store, usually stick to cucumber ranch.
Yesterday I decided to make it at home, and the experiment went terribly wrong.

The recipe said - 3 tbsp of olive oil, 1 tbsp vinegar, 1 clove garlic, salt and pepper to taste, dash of soy sauce.

It tasted delicious, and I ate two rounds of salad for dinner, so did my neighbors.
An hour later I was doubled up in serious pain. The damn vinegar was like burning up inside me. I kept asking my friends how they felt, they said they never felt better. An hour later, after drinking lots of water and taking an antacid I started to recover.

I can’t believe I ended up almost poisoning myself :frowning:

When I was younger, I loved shrimp and other shell fish. A few years ago, I discovered that I couldn’t eat shrimp/lobster/crab etc. any more without breaking out into a bad rash with a high fever.

Why the heck does this happen? Ever had this happen to you?

Re: Discovering new food allergies by accident

Oh that sounds painful! Are you sure it wasnt a piece of lettuce or tomato that was a bit off that caused the pain?

Re: Discovering new food allergies by accident

Nope. I eat salad all the time, and everything was crispy fresh. I know it was the vinegar, it was really acidic.

My friends were absolutely OK. Just my rotten luck, I guess.

A co-worker told me today that I should use balsamic vinegar, it's milder. But tauba, I've had it with vinegar.

Re: Discovering new food allergies by accident

maybe it was after effects of some thing you ate before salad (like in the morning or afternoon), your salad just helped clean your stomach.

Re: Discovering new food allergies by accident

I only ate cereal in the morning, that's all. I'm on a diet.

Who knows? I'm going to keep my distance from vinegar for some time.

Re: Discovering new food allergies by accident

perhaps you are aleergic to certain types of vinegar

if you use store bought dressing its likely that it contains vinegar

some are not as potent as others

Re: Discovering new food allergies by accident

I'm sticking to good ol cucumber ranch from now on.
