What is the islamic view on the disciples of Jesus? I mean apart from Judas
Re: Disciples of Jesus
I dont know if Judas was a deciples. he was the one, who was on the cross. Interesting topic thou. As far as I know, there were 12 disciples. four of them are mentioned in The Bible: John, Luke, Matt, Matthew. John and Luke saw Prophet Jesus, but Matt Matthew never did. I think (not sure) but Quran does talk about John (doesnt uses the word John).
Re: Disciples of Jesus
There were more than 70 disciples according to the Bible.
All the 12 disciples that became the Apostles are mentioned in the Bible.
Re: Disciples of Jesus
^ Thanks for responses
I have always wondered that the disciples should have been the ones who formed the nucleus of the early christians and they are the ones that are favoured in Quran not the Trinitarians
Re: Disciples of Jesus
are Disciples also as caliphas (spelling)
Re: Disciples of Jesus
^ no they are not. they were same as sahaba (companions).
Apostles can be regarded as Caliphes, but there were none appointed by or told by Jesus (AS). Most of them were self proclaimed, St. Paul being the leading one to destroy Shariyah.
Re: Disciples of Jesus
^ Paul (same as saul right?)was not even a disciple as far as I know he converted after Jesus(pbuh) left this world
Re: Disciples of Jesus
^ exactly, as I said self-proclaimed (barsaati maindak) emerged from every hole claiming being deciples of Jesus, or meeting him after ressurrction day and other false claims. Basically it was a big set up to destroy the reforms that Jesus brought to Judaism. Rabbis were so concerned about their monopoly over people's spritiuality that they first attempted to kill Jesus and if that was not enough they destroyed his message by converting themselves to Christianity, after failed to stop his followers.
Re: Disciples of Jesus
Well i heard that Paul is the one who said that he had a dream about Jesus, and he said that Jesus told him to tell his (Jesus) message to its people, and thats when the New Testament was written around 335 AD. Now we all know that thats where all the contradiction starts (but thats not the main point).
.... what i read (from diff sources) they (Rabbis) didnt destroy the message. The word "Catholic" came before even Jesus was born. Catholic means universal, so basically it was kinda of a religion/government in order to unite everyone under one belief (whatever the belief was)...
But in 335 AD, because there were three major diff groups: Muslims (Believe in oneness of God), Holy Spirit, and last group was who said Jesus was "son of God". So thats why the concept of trinity was created in order to unite everyone again, and many of followers were forced into it. Many muslims were killed too. So thats why Christians around the world say: The Father, Holy Spirit, and the son.
Re: Disciples of Jesus
Not completely true.
The first Apostles were the 11 disciples that remained after Judas Iscariot left them. They then picked another to fill Judas’ place. Later they appointed some other people to be Apostles. Some, like Paul/Saul, was not a disciple of Jesus while he was preaching.
Paul was not the leading disciple that wanted to move away from the old Jewish laws. The decision for this was taken by ALL leaders at a meeting under leadership of James and Peter.
BTW: disciple of Jesus only means “follower of the teachings of Jesus”
Re: Disciples of Jesus
The books were compiled into the New Testament yes, but all the books of the New Testament were written before 100AD.
“Catholic” only came to be used after Jesus. You are correct in it’s meaning being “universal”. It denotes the whole Christian church incorporating ALL who profess Jesus as saviour. That’s why the Roman Catholic Church use “Roman” before their name to destinquish themself from the rest of the Catholic movements like Protestant, Babtist, etc.
Wrong. The saying “the Father, Son and Holy Spirit” was used by Jesus - Matt.28v18-20 The Jesus came to them and said…“…go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…”
