Direction of IT

This is probably so vague and hard to answer, but where do you see the field of IT going in the next 10 years? Security, continuation of programming, regrowth of outsourcing?
I am heavily involved and have a passion with ITIL and PMP related subject matters but I feel like I should venture into something more complex and challenging. Security is boring to me and programming I have no interest in. I know this has probably been discussed or thought of but whenever I go to PK I always think of brain drain. We have so many talented people but no avenue or path for them to utilize their potential. We should setup some form of organized academic structure that allows these people to get industry certs or knowledge, whether in IT or any other industry so they can succeed. IT training to help our own people is my goal…is that just a pipe dream?

Re: Direction of IT

AWS and Dev ops (cloud tech) is getting pretty big. Cisco and Networking as well...

Security is your best bet though, I think now the various industries are merging. Cloud Computing/Dev Ops requires you know a bit of programming, networking, System adminstration and security.
But with all that being said...how is Security boring!!? If you get into White Hat ethical hacking and trying to find ways to access networks and systems I don't think that will be boring. But of of course the security job you will find determines how you perceive the field/job to be.

Re: Direction of IT

I agree. Security will become an even more important subject. Especially when you look at increased Cloud adoption. A lot of European companies are still a bit skeptical about moving their infrastructure into the Cloud. But at some point they will not have a choice. Software vendors are either not offering on-premise solutions anymore and even if they are, they are making them commercially unattractive.
