I used to think about writing a play as a teen, since I engaged in other forms of creative writing, but I never pursued it beyond writing a rough plot because of my lack of interest in theater and its inherent restrictions. Recently, since watching Terrence Mallick’s The New World, directing has started to appeal to me. The philosophical concepts used in the movie (I think he was a professor of philosophy at MIT if I remember correctly) led me to thinking of atypical applications of what I am studying (literature and philosophy). Though my planned career path is in the intelligentsia, I would ideally like to do something creative in the art world. I am not talking about Hollywood movies, but rather something independent, a visual philosophy so to speak. Those who are familiar with French philosophy will know how common this crossing over into art and art as medium for philosophy is.
I am opening this thread because I would like to know who else has thought of directing / screen writing, whether they are pursuing it or would like to, what ideas they have, how they plan to go about fulfilling their goals, and so on. Just basically looking for people who are serious and would like to exchange and discuss ideas. Thank you.
I always loved the idea of script writing and directing. In fact did couple of stage acts during my University days that involved me as script writer and actor and at least 2 times, got a chance to direct them
Nothing was at professional level though
However, in those days, my strentgh was more in writing. Even now when I read my old writings, it gives me this thrill that I worte that
Now, cant even duplicate a 10th of what I used to do
