I have some people coming over for dinner tonight, it was all very last minute, so everything’s a bit thrown together.
The family coming over don’t eat daal or veg, so I’ve decided not to cook these, as it’ll be a waste and frankly I don’t have time as I won’t be getting home from work until 6pm today, they’re due at 8pm. Also, they’re not keen on chicken except tandoori chicken. So the menu is:
**Starters:
**Tandoori chicken (already marinated and ready to cook)
Potato wedges (more for the kids)
Cheese coleslaw (already made)
**
Mains:
**Lamb korma (cooked last night)
Lamb biryani (ready to cook tonight)
Haleem (cooking away in my slow cooker)
Accompaniments:
Naan
Raita
Mixed salad
**Dessert:
**Seviyaan ka muzzafar (that’s the dry ones cooked in ghee)
Ice cream
The menu does feel off balance as I’d always have a daal and veg, but as I say they won’t eat it. I can’t change any of the above mentioned items.
So, my question is, should I add falalfel and houmous to the starters? They’ll be shop bought. Or leave as is? I’d appreciate feedback urgently, as I’ll need to pop to the shop for the falafel and homous on my lunch break.
I say leave it as it is , it all looks fabulous already .. I think it will cater very well to the meat lovers , so yeah go for it ...
If you want you can try and save some hassle by peeling and cubing some mangoes and serving them in a large bowl along with icecrea .. that way you wont have to cook sivawiyan... what say ? coz vermicelli is served hot , but you have ice cream as your second desset ... so might as well have two cold desserts ...
^Agree…there are two lamb items in the main course. Maybe make one of them chicken?
OR…you can just shift the tandoori chicken from appetizers to main course. So, you’ll have lamb korma, tandoori chicken, and haleem…which sounds more balanced.
I think that potato wedges and coleslaw would be okay for starters. But if you want a third item for starters…you can have something light such as patties or samosay. I think that starters should be light and grilled meats…especially big pieces can become heavy. Overall I think it’s a good menu :k:
