Re: Dinner menu help
I think you have too many chicken dishes in your menu. Also, take it easy, don't treat it as a competion because you're pregnant...I'm sure your guests understand that, so do what you can handle.
I like the idea of a chicken roast with roasted poatatoes...how about adding some mushrooms to that as well? My dad often makes baked chicken with potatoes and mushrooms and it's a delicious combo. Do a
If you're going to do a roast chicken dish...then don't do the chicken kababs. Go with the masala fish instead. And then for the veggie dish....you can have veggie pulao. I think that would be balanced.
OR...you can do kababs made from red meat and skip the fish. So then the menu would be Chicken roast with potatoes, kababs, and veggie pulao.
Re: Dinner menu help
The kababs and roast are dry dishes...what about a salan type dish? Here's another suggestion:
One rice dish (pulao)
Chicken roast with potatoes
Kababs made from red meat
And one veggie dish such as palak or chanay.
So, now you have a rice dish, a chicken dish, a red meat dish, and a salan/veggie dish. That also seems more balanced. I say skip the fish because then you have way too much meat.
Re: Dinner menu help
Make a couple of easy dishes and order some take out from some nice restaurant and make it look like home cooked .
Re: Dinner menu help
Given your situation i completely agree with Mirch ..
Get the usual lamb seekh kababs from the market and serve them with aloo cutlets ... Which are fairly easy to make and wont take you too long either ..
Then for the main dish, do a lamb biryani and for salan chicken karahi with naan
For dessert, do Rasmalai ... and some mangoes chopped to be served with icecream ...
I think this will proe to be a good menu inshallah .. your only using major energy on biryani ...
Karahi is easy , aloo cutlets are easy ( dont have to stand for too long for either )
Rasmalai gets ready in 10 minutes !
Let me know if you need the recieps ...
Re: Dinner menu help
Thanks for suggestions! I will discuss with hubby!Im thnkin of makin lamb karahi todY can u post a recipe please
Re: Dinner menu help
there are two ways you can make the lamb krahi ... choose which ever on you feel comfortable with:
Karahi 1:
Fry sliced onions in oil , add ginger garlic paste, start frying the lamb pieces ... after about 20 minutes of bhuno'ing on high flame , add in spices ( haldi, red chilli powder, salt) add in the tomatoes ( about 2-3 ) .. bhunno some more and finally Pop it all into a pressure cooker , add two cups water and put it on pressure cooker for about half hour or until the meat is fully cooked and tender .
Finally add in fresh corriander and green chillies for garnish
Karhai 2:
Put meat in the pressure cooker until meat is fully done but not very soft yet. Drain and keep aside
In a pot, heat oil, add zeera seeds , when they crackle, add in garlic paste , after a minute add ginger ... then add the meat .. and stir for 10 minutes , add in the spices ( salt, turmeric and just half tsp red chilli powder) bhunoo for 5 more minutes , finally add in tomatos ( blend 10-15 tomatoes turn into a fine paste ) ... now cover and let it cook on low heat ... when the tomatoes start to thicken up and meat starts becoming really soft, add in 3-4 finely chopped green chillies and loads of fresh corriander ...
Enjoy this with naan ...
Re: Dinner menu help
For a dessert go for things you can make a day or two in advance as it's one less thing to do on the day. If you want the wow factor for something that is super easy to do go with a pavlova! :D
Re: Dinner menu help
My mom usually makes dessert for gatherings....but there have been a few times (for smaller gatherings) that she has served store-brought ice cream with fruit...or premade rasmalai from the local desi market. As others above have suggested, make a few things and buy a few things. It'll make your life easier. People understand that you're pregnant and don't expect you to tire yourself out.
Re: Dinner menu help
Chicken roast or Chicken Karhai ( I know chicken karhai is one of the easiest to make)
Pulao or Tahiri (tahiri is one of the easiest to make I'll post my recipe for you)
Aloo cutlets (easy to make & fry)
Bhuna Keema / Keema aloo / Keema capsicum of red meat
Russian salad and raita
Naans
