Dilemma Number 2...

Okay so basically following on from my previous thread..

I decided to go with Specsavers… now these guys have 2 stores within a half hour sort of distance from one another.

So, myself and another girl (who I don’t know) got offered a store each - However, one of my friends is on the Specsavers mailing list and today she received an email saying that the other store (which the other lass got offered) has a vacancy. I’m assuming this is because the other girl didn’t accept the offer.

NOW, I have a friend who doesn’t yet have her pre reg secured and it would be absolutely AWESOME if she got the other store as this would mean we could live together etc. So the question is, should I mention her to these guys.. or should she just call them up and go about applying herself (although I’m sure they would know that I’ve told her…).

So far I have let them know by email that I accept their offer and they had previously said they would give me the other girls contact details so we could discuss whether we want to live together etc. So in the email I have also asked them if they could provide me with her details so I could contact her. I’m assuming they will either tell me that she’s no longer taking the position.. or something along them lines.

So is it wise for me casually to drop in that I know someone, and could I recommend her to them. Because from what I know of them they so far have gone out of their way to be quite accommodating, and obviously if she fits the role they would probably be more than happy that I’d have someone I get along with etc and could live with. (They are quite involved with their employees…)

OR

Should she just call them and enquire.. but I would assume they would click on that I’ve told her about the position because we are from the same city/university etc and it would be quite obvious that we are friends (I think).

Would they be more likely to consider her if I mentioned her? Or would that make me appear too forthcoming/rude etc etc.

Help guys!

Re: Dilemma Number 2...

All this is based on the assumption that the space is indeed vacant. Sometimes system get updated late etc etc.
I would suggest that your friend apply for that role and list you as a referrer.

Now if you reach out to them enquiring about the other person's contact info ..noting you need to make residence arrangements asap and need to coordinate with her, they may tell you she is not joining..then you can tell the about your friend.

Re: Dilemma Number 2...

hey ... you dont have to mention that you think there is a vacancy and the girl turned down the offer ...

but you can always let your HR know that you have a friend who you would like to recommend for any potential future roles ... and then let them do the rest . Meanwhile ask your friend to send in their CV to SpecSavers ...

good Luck :)

Re: Dilemma Number 2...

One more thing, I work in HR and I know for a fact that about 35% of a firm's recruitment is done through recommendations from current employees ... And very often emails are sent out to people asking them to let the HR know if they know of friends who may be have the required skill set and looking for work ...

So its a healthy thing to share your friends recomendation with them ...

Re: Dilemma Number 2...

Thanks for the feedback guys..

Yeah she enquired herself and they do have a vacancy - so we were right about the other lass not accepting the offer..

My friends going to apply for it now.. InshaAllah she gets it - would be a perfect situation...

Re: Dilemma Number 2...

Peace inzi

Do a double wammy ... and also drop it in their ear ... and tell your friend to make you a reference for her ... then they see your name and it will increase her chances - and with two people working for them living in the same home will increase their retention of staff - in those sorts of areas of the country retaining is a major factor ... InshaAllah it's a win win - so drop a mention to them as well ... yay ... :)

Man, I need some new glasses… :bummer:

Sorry, I have no valuable contribution to make to the dilemma you face, I’m busy saving lives…

…Ok, I lie. I’m reading the sports.

Re: Dilemma Number 2...

Psyah.. Thats what I was thinking.. it would most definitely be a positive thing for them because they've already had 2 people drop out due to location issues.. thanks for the affirmation... I will mention it next time I speak to them.. no doubt they will approach me about it anyway. :)
