I read in the novel, that during 1857 (Ghadar) Kashmiri gate was destroyed by British army. seems it was later re-constructed by British rulers.

British destroyed it to enter during rebellion/Vidroh, it was stronghold of Mirza Mughal, in pre 1857 General Metcalf and entire british regiments were positioned to the south of Kashmiri Gate, in Civil Lines, the old remanants of civil lines now form many Delhi government’s office, they reconstructed it with wooden gate. Urdu promotion board which is just inside the fort was build later.

apart from city what distinguish is attitude of Delhiwallah like discussing passionately while talking, we will keep talking while pakoras are dropping out of mouth:D
