I was really excited about having my bridal makeup done by Dil. I love his brides. I’m not after the traditional cakey makeup with red eyeshadow so he was perfect for me but he’s booked for my date.

Girls I really need your help in choosing a good makeup artist. I need somebody who is experienced, worked with big names like asiana and knows contour makeup.

Any suggestions will be hugely appreciated ladies…x

I have Dil booked :)

Naveeda is my other MUA i used her on my engagement. She did not cake me over at all! And she prior to some strange reviews she actually listens to what you want.

Fariha is someone who i was chasing- but she does not answer her phone! it drove me mad i left alot of msgs etc she returned my calls but then dissappeared again!!

what date are you looking at distinctive??

24th July Uzziee and I just called Gini Bhogal shes also booked :(

I'm not happy at all.

I'm glad one of us got Dil though. Do you know anybody he would really recommend?

ambreen and dil have a very similar style and would recommend her, seema syed or Gini Bhogal

hhmmmm im not sure about non asians - simply because of the dupatta setting issue as you want someone who knows how a dulhan should look and which style etc will work with your outfit

Also, you should check with your photographer if there is anyone they recommend, your photographer would have seen so many brides and will know whos make up looks good and photographs well

ambreen is £450 + £50 trial which she does NOT deduct from her fee when booked!

Thats ridiculous! Gini and Dil were charging 400 pounds why is Ambreen so much more expensive?!

Ugh, I'm so lost now on what to do.

Ps my photographer is english he only knows english makeup artists.

You said you used Seema Syed i'm not sure how you feel about it but would I be able to see pictures of the makeup she did for you?

Girls, I had Dil matharu do my makeup and can't this enough but the guy is AMAZING! I didn't even have a trial with him because I knew that's how good he is. The next best thing I would say is to go with Ambreen if your willing to fork out some extra money. =)

Dil was quite i happy i booked Naveeda for my barat and reception as he has worked with her on a few photoshoots and they went to Goa together to make up a bride for her functions! ( rich indian family paid their expenses!!)

Gini would defo be booked up by now, Ambreen - i dont like her look she does not have it for me!!

Do try Naveeda :) she is taking £430 i think but £400 from me as i booked her on the engagement and my friends all booked her for their weddings after my engagement ! she is also doing my mums make up on both days for £150. she is doing it herself.. as she did an amazing job with my mums hair ( its thinning she filled it in superb) and made my mum glow naturally. she made a right effort both with me and my mum , she was just too good!!

i went for dil for my walima as naveeda was booked up already on that day!

Girls! Dil Matharu is it! hes def the best around I have him booked for my mehndi, barrat walima! I booked him with out a trial he did my cusions makeup I was worried I booked him for three

events but my cus looked diffrent on every event - soft glowy for mehndi, sharp and crisp makeup for barrat and smokey glittery eyes for walima. thats where I met him, he lovley so calming!

hey uzzie I had naveeda to for my engagment too! she was good but Dil Matharu has to be the one did you go to see him? your right about ambrens makeup not for me either! - way too much!

Hey all the posts on here are 100% right. Dil is amazing. He makes you look so different without making you look caked. You get that half tradional hald modern bride look. In some of his pictures i noticed even when girls are not wearing the most flattering outfits they look lovely and radient.

Anyway Distinctive-Flair, i’m sure you dont wana hear no more about how good he is because he is sadley booked for your date :frowning: but there are a few people i would reccommend. The only reason i recommend these people are because of the praise i’ve heard about them through Dil and Gini.

Firstly, Saira Hussain - her email address is:

She has worked along side Gini before for a make up academy programme. I know 2 brides she has down and the 3rd who has booked her again. My best mate was done by Saira Hussain and omg did she look amazing! After Dil, Saira would be the best for making the Eyes look stunning. The only thing I heard about her was that she does like to apply a lot of make up - but if you dont want that and tell her exactly how you want it then she listens very well and applys how you wish. My best friend looked flawless on her big day. Saira is quite popular with pakistani brides. look through the magazines she has done lots of work on asiana models. Bal has been trained by Dil Matharu and is one of his many assistants. I can speak for Bal as most of my family get their hair and make up done from her. She has quite a few pictures of her hair and make up up on her facebook however there are not lots of brides only a few. She also makes people look flawless with eyes standing out ( has that Dil kinda feel to it )and her hair styles are too good. She would defo be cheaper too! so give her a call and check it out. She has been trained by Dil after all!! Bally was there on the previous Bridal exibiton show with Dil helping him to get the Model Brides ready.

Thirdly, when trying to pick out the best make artists in this kind of range and professionalism then there are a few names that always come up:

Seema Syed : I believe she is Ambreen’s cousin. She did my cousins make up recently for her wedding. She works for asian bride magazines too. She creates a good glowing texture on the face. One thing she is very good for is mixing colours. So if your not too keen on bright red or dark reds, she will mix a few colours to make something of your liking, and even give you some in a tub to use after. 07786333556, http://www.seemasyed.com/

Jawaad Ashraf: 07958060818 - ( men are usually better then women in some cases so have a look at Jawaads work too) he has classes teching people how to apply make up!

Finally: people i would not reccomend. Not that I like to say bad things about anyones work but i am speaking truely based on my own experience. Two people I would say dont bother wasting your time with especially if you have no links to this person and are just purley a new client is

  1. Naveeda - in some threads people have said naveeda is really good and so on however I did not see that one little bit. She was a nice person to talk to, quite friendly, so people who said she is unplesent that a little lie - however she kept coming across as " im not going to put £400 worth of make up on u in a £100 trial". She only applied basic eye lashes on me. little bit of lipstick with no gloss. I had to force her to put the other lash on she was only puting it on one eye!! she kept on saying that when the actual day comes she will do this and do that. but surley you need to do well on ur trial to make the client feel comfortable enough to want to book you. She is the only one that charges £100 for hair and make up trial. and she makes you look very old school!! if thats what you like then great! but there is no glamour look in her make up its all basic aunty ji look.
  2. Joshiv - con company. Started off with superior make up and hair and mendhi then slowly went down the drain. they have reduced prices to get customers, but truth is only minor people want to work for them now as they treated the good high standard people like crap!

Wow! Dubai-based "renowned" make up artists are so much more expensive with NO trial! I am paying appx. AED 4,000 for my Reception.

Hi Strawberrymoon... yes i was getting rather sick of seeing posts on how great Dil is when what I was asking for was advise on who else I could possible book so thank you for giving me some fantastic suggestions!

Your the third person to recommend Seema Syed to me and after having a lengthly conversation with her I booked her! I'm rather excited actually she was very lovely and took the time to really understand what I wanted, provided suggestions on what would suit my face type in terms of makeup and hair and I got a good deal with her as well so thumbs up from me :)

Browsing through the forums that consist of threads of moans and complaints from brides to be makes me wonder, why they start a public thread questioning others about something which can be answered or resolved by speaking to a professional or emailing the respective make-up artists if unavailable to take your call personally.

Makeup artists like Naveeda, Dil Matharu, Seema Syed and Ambreen makeup to name a few are some of the most reputable and recognised MUA's in the industry and some of them are at the peak of their careers and therefore due to the high demand of the services that they provide, they get booked up for bridal events sometimes a year in advance, so my advice to any new brides to be, book your event in advance especially*if you have your heart set on having a particular MUA.

Some people are under the notion that the higher price is due to popularity of a MUA a price which may seem higher to you is actually a fair price. Prices are based on location and include accessories for hair and extra bridal services services which others might charge you additional for, hair extensions, lashes and dressing are all included at no extra cost by some, so your getting the best deal.

In my view if you want the best you gotta pay for the best and the extra trial costs are charged because a bride is given a full hair and makeup trial not half a face or hair put up with the artists hands to show you how it would look in a bun, so why the issue.

Naveeda, Dil, Ambreen and Seema's trials are through and in depth and this is feedback from people who have had trials with them and surely if their spending time with you which doesn't limit to just a 30 minute consultation, then for*an extra cost for a hour or 2 trial it is worth an investment.

Some people include free trials but trust me their trials are no longer then 30 mins and well some say paying less doesn't always give you good results, well may be with some yes but with high prolific MUA's such as the one's mentioned they have teams who represent them and some specialise in bridal events soley, so if you can't have them for your event for any reason then why not have someone who is part of their company, you know you'll be in safe hands and the results may be a little different but ultimately the techniques will be the same. I know if I can't get the person I want for my wedding then anyone associate with them would be good for me as a MUA would not have a team who wasn't good enough to represent their name, so that's another option.

No bridal booking is more favourable for a MUA so when they say their unavailable they really are, no MUA will turn away business so believe them when they say their booked and if one MUA recommends another it is due to their close working and personal relationship and well there's no harm in recommendations now is there, especially if it's coming from a professional.

Finally some also think that some of the mentioned MUA's are in-house artists for Asian Bride Magazine but their not they work closely with Asiana magazine who have no affiliation with Asian bride magazine as the two are a different publication, I know all this cos I have been fortunate enough to have my make-up done by a few of them and trust me I had questions too but I am satisfied with the answers I was given and the service provided to me was of a friendly and professional manner and they didn't just make me look beautiful but also made me feel beautiful.
