Digital Camera.....Sony or Canon?

I have been looking for a good digital camera. I want a either 3.2MP-3X Optical zoom or a 5MP-3X Optical zoom.

I have figured out that Canon and Sony are leading the digicam market.

What are the Pros and Cons of these two brands?
Is Canon really better than Sony (in digital cams) when it comes to picture quality and colors?
Is Sony limited to its own OEM Memory chip and Canon is not?
Which one is easier to use with the PC?

Prices are close too.

3.2MP 3xOz
Sony $449
Canon $449

5.0MP 3xOz
Sony $599
Canon $729

Which models in particular?

I have a Sony and I dislike the memory stick. Its slow, and expensive. Some sony products use floppys, cds,or the new memory stick pro. If you want cheap storage, Sony should not be on your list unless you want the CD Mavica. The CD’s provide the cheapest storage solution on the market. You wont find anything cheaper.

I’d recommend a Canon, wait for this : Canon SD10 . It looks promising.

huh?? decide exactly how much resolutiong do you NEED.. how much optical zoom you can't live without. what are your MUST HAVE features in the Camera. What's the absolute most you'd pay for all that.

yes.. but i'd say Olympus or Nikon or Fuji are right up there too... Olympus may even be better than SONY.

all memories have their own characteristic.. CF cards are readily available and cheaper than other forms of memory and most Canon models support it.

must be Canadian right. cuz u can get the Canon A70 for US $300... that's more camera than a majority of people will ever need.

I got Sony P72 i.e. 3.2MP and 3X Optical Zoom. I also bought Lex... 128MB memory stick that is half the price of Sony. Good to see third party manufacturers making memory for Sony equipments.
Overall I am happy with the performance.

Now I need to know which DV Video Camera is the best?????
Quality-wise and Easy to use. Price range from medium to expensive.

how much did u pay?? personally i don't understand anyone willing to pay around US $280 going for anything other than the Canon A70

Re: Digital Camera…Sony or Canon?

I’ve been drooling for the Canon Powershot G3 (4 MP) with 4x zoom, for about a year now. Was waiting for the prices to get below the $450 mark. Now they are so i should be getting it really soon. The new G5 is out there too, but for the extra $200 the only thing I get is the 1 extra mp picture, which doesn’t make that much difference anyway.
The best thing for me is the storage option, it uses CompactFlash cards which are a lot lot cheaper than Memory Stick, plus it comes in a lot of different capacities (I saw one which was 4 GB). Plus I currently own a Canon Digital Elph, so I’d be able to use my existing CF cards. And lastly I’ve been very happy with Canon cameras (used to have a 35mm Canon way back when I started photography in my teen years).
