Digital Camera for specific use

I would like to get your opinions on something.

I am planning to buy a digital camera, and I am going to mainly use it to put pictures online. Thing is, I am creating a business website, and I need to take snapshots of some art paintings/posters and put them online. Therefore I need that when the pictures is downsized to put online, that the quality is really good, because with art people like to see details. Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks.

What you're looking for is a camera capable of capturing great detail with excellent color accuracy and the ability to photograph stuff up close.

What it translates to in technical specs when you research available digital cameras in your budget:

  1. Must be around 2MP or more
  2. Must have good optics (good lens)
  3. Close focusing/Macro Mode (A must have!)
  4. Optical Zoom (when you would not be ablet to 'zoom with your feet')

Additionally you may need Custom White Balance to be able to get the 'tone of colors' just right.

I'd recommend the Canon A60.. it's kinda an older model but it fits the criteria perfectly and being a relatively older model it's quite affordable too.

and to manipulate images (color correction, size reduction, etc) use irfanview. its a freeware that does a lot.
