They also have 1GB Compact Flash cards out now, and its not too expensive either. If planning a longish tour with lots of pics, you should consider it as well. Then you will be covered for 2,000+ pics.

Actually I've seen 4 gb CF cards out there Faisal.
I would rather buy 2 x 512 mb cards (or even 4 x 256mb cards) before going for a 1 gb CF. Its like putting all the eggs in one basket.

I have used CF, SM and SD.. and technically none of them has ever given me any problems. Ofcourse the risk that you physically lose a card is there... but as long as it stays inside the camera you are reasonably secure (cz otherwise you will lose the camera too, which should be a bigger problem). Keeping them elsewhere increases the risk of losing them, and thats why one big card makes sense to me. Anyway, its probably a personal choice.

How is the S410 different from the A75/A80 other than its physical appearance?
[/QUOTE]

it's smaller, lighter and pricier. Has a more powerful flash and doesn't take AA's but uses a battery which you can recharge with an external charger.

It lacks the 'creative' modes so you're stuck with how the camera evaluates a scene and determines exposure for you.. a true Point and Shoot.

In addition you cannot use add-on lenses with the S410 or S500

So would you say the A80 is better?

I know, my digicam questions are annoying, but who else can I ask?

:halo:

it all depends on your needs.. some people need to use AA batteries as you can find them anywhere and also use rechargeables which are cheaper.. other know they will always have a place to charge their rechargeable camera battery so don't worry about it.

some need smaller sizes.. other need more control over their exposure settings.. or the ability to add extra lenses ..

Only you can answer which is better by laying down your "must haves" and then shopping for the camera that gives you all that with minimum trade-offs and at the price point of your liking.

So you're not a big fan of the canon rebel? we'll use the camera later on too..after the trip and my husband is fine with the size and it's going to be a graduation gift from his sister so price is fine too...

If size of camera/price aren't a factor, are there any other reason NOT to get the rebel? The reviews online seem to love it...

oh i have nothing against the camera.. in fact u can buy it with the kit lens for under $850 these days.. which is an excellent price for a very good DSLR.. if size/weight/price don't matter then there is nothing like one as a travel camera. Might need one more lens for the 'tele' range .. useful for travel.. and also brush up on post processing skills with an Image Editing software.
