Different types of thread available in Pakistan ..

Those who have occasionally visited the sewing shops in Lahore / islamabad .. I need some serious advice please ..

Husband is off to Pakistan for a short trip and I have asked him to get me some yarn. So please tell me the typicalPakistani terms used for the following threads/yarn

  • For Crocheting a baby blanket, I need some Satin or Acrylic yarn.. Definitely dont want a wool yarn coz it doesnt have that kind of finish that I seek .. Question is , is Satin or Acrylic yarn readily available in at the shops in Pakistan? what is it called there?

  • for embroidery, what kind of thread is the best to use? I need to know a Pakistan brand that is color fast and gives out a neat / shiny finish .. any ideas which brand to use?

  • also Fabric paints , normally two types of paints are available in Pakistan, Pearl & Emboss … are these readily available in Lahore stationary shops as well?

Many thanks for your advice ..

Re: Different types of thread available in Pakistan ..

I can only answer your last query, Anees book corner and Iqbal book shop in main market are huge stationary shops bound to carry any types of fabric paints and can also arrange for the ones you require. Otherwise urdu bazar in Lahore has everything. In Islamabad saeed book bank would be your best bet!

Re: Different types of thread available in Pakistan ..

*Fabric paints are easily found at the bigger stationery shops...like Iqbal book corner & Anees book corner (both in Gulberg mini market).
If you need specialty stuff, ask your husband to go to some shop in Anarkali..(I do not know the name but know there is one there and NCA students go there).Maybe he can ask around about it.

*I used to be fond of embroideries back in the day...and the thread most popular at that time used to be Anchor/Coats...a wide range of colors was available and they were fast colors.I used to get them from a shop in Garden town but that shop no longer exists (I am talking about 15 or more years ago..!).But I am pretty sure they wont be hard to find.

Re: Different types of thread available in Pakistan ..

yes Anchor is best for embroidery n fabric paint is easily available in ANARKALI near Old Campus punjab university .

Re: Different types of thread available in Pakistan ..

yarn-I know about getting it from a shop in shah-alam market, rang mahal ... we used to get it from there for my mom years back

Re: Different types of thread available in Pakistan ..

wow , so much information , thanks so much guys … so the fabric paint and the embroidery thread issue is sorted ..

What about the satin/acrylic yarn ? if husband goes to a shop and says he is looking for satin yarn.. is that going to be enough for the shop guys to understand what we are looking for or is there some other terminology for satin yarn? :konfused: really appreciate all your help ..
