Different Rasams on wedding

Re: Different Rasams on wedding

dupattay se dulhay ko marriage hall main enter hone se rokna. usually bride's sisters/cousin-sisters do this.

in afghan weddings, bride's sisters steal the knife with which the bride and groom have to cut the cake. they do their traditional dance holding the knife and until he pays up, he can't cut the cake.

we have goda bandhaayi rasm in punjab.

Re: Different Rasams on wedding

dupattay se dulha ki knee (goda) tie kar ke dharna laga ke baith jana ... usually happens around rukhsati time ... he has to give money or a gift (usually a gold ring or chain) to the bridesmaids before he is allowed to leave.

Re: Different Rasams on wedding

I think this is an Indian rasm but I've seen this being done in pakistani weddings as well. A tray full of milk and rose petals ... and you put a gold ring inside... then get the bride and groom to try and find it. Whoever finds it first is assumed to have the upper hand in marriage.

Re: Different Rasams on wedding

Poor groom doodh pilai kay baad bhi Jaan nahin chooti :(

Re: Different Rasams on wedding

Sehra touched by 7 married ladies and tied to Dulhan's forehead at Rukhsati.... (Saath Suhagan)

Never seen this ritual...

Re: Different Rasams on wedding

^ haven't heard of that. But there is this one in which "gaana" is wrapped around the wrist of the grooms

Re: Different Rasams on wedding

lol really depends on the family and how many sisters/cousins the bride has. For example, in my khala's wedding, my sister did doodh pilai and I did goda bandhne ki rasm. We did both at the same time, and they kind of knew beforehand that we'll be doing two rasms so they had made gold rings for both of us.

Re: Different Rasams on wedding

There is another rasm some families do ... it's done at dulha's house when bride is brought home. The dewar (as a way of introduction and becoming 'chota bhai' of bride) sits on the bride's knee and she has to pay him to get off.

I personally think it's a wahyaat rasm but seen it done in more modern families.

Re: Different Rasams on wedding

^ yes that’s a wahiyat rasm :snooty: but it happens
