Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

The basic difference I find is that:

  • Indian dresses have too much going on in the dress. I mean there is too much kaam & chimku stuff which some times leads to an overall tacky look. I have seen work by many designers including Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra, Tarun etc. Their dresses look great on most celebrities but for people like us who would want to wear some thing on their wedding its not an appropriate choice.

  • Pakistani dresses are elegant, simple, up to date & fashionable. I've seen many of the Pakistanis wear Indian clothes and start getting that same over done look. Instead when they wear Pakistani wear they look beautiful, Masha Allah!

But, anyway, designers on both ends rock in their own genres -

Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

I have seen in indian dresses that their shalwars have no shape to them :/ I mean the bottom part of the shalwaar is almost the same width as the top part and the whole shalwaar seems as though its too long on whoever is wearing it.

Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

I've just recently gotten into Pakistani clothes... Living in Toronto I didn't really care before and I just bought whatever I liked but the main differences I've noticed are the material for Pakistani clothes on the whole is better and the work on the clothes is a lot more intricate and sophisticated and well done. I've noticed with Indian clothes that the work tends to fall off easier or is not placed as well... kind of just like haphazardly thrown around all over. Also, the styles differ a lot. Pakistani clothes are now into long kameez, maxi dresses, basically overall looser fitting more elegant styles and I've noticed I've rarely come across these styles in Indian stores - they still have anarkalis that are fitted from the top and hit at the knee, shalwars and the typical lehngas (shorter top with a skirt). This is just what I noticed from shopping around Toronto.

Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

a general observation:

when it comes to Saris, Indians wear them more than lenghas and salwars, obviously Indian Saris are going to be more exquisite. The designers put more effort into making them look great, such detailed work. i've noticed the pakistani ones aren't as beautiful.

when it comes to lenghas, since the pakistani public wears them more along with salwar kameez, the designer pakistani lenghas are just superb, very beautiful, they remind me of how detailed the indian saris are, great embroidery. i'm hoping to get one if i bribe my pakistani friends into getting me one on their next visit to pak. so it's a tie, anymore india vs pakistan questions

Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

ok by all of the comments i have concluded that there is only a slight difference may be ignorable. means we cannot differentiate Pakistani and Indian dresses on basic designs. now question is, which are those specific dresses only belong to India or Pakistan except some regional dresses? what do you say about that?

Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

Indian dressess have more bling factor, bollywood style. Material is not good. Shirts are shorter, mostly knee length. Straight churidar (which have no churi though) no ghair shalwar etc. are the most commonnly noticable difference.

Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

i used to b married in an indian family. they used to foam at the mouth for pakistani clothes (even tho they were completely anti-pakistan...curiously enough). from the clothes ive seen them in and been gifted, the main differences r:
1. fabric - alot of their clothes r made from inferior fabrics and colors
2. kaam - the kaam on alot of their outfits are alot more tacky (sounds mean but thats what i observed on my own personal preferences) and i had a hard time wearing their clothes
3. the fit - they dont have the same shape/fit that pakistani clothes have, and that is one thing i always hear them complain about. their clothes are more shapeless and they r always on the lookout for a pakistani tailor.

Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

indian dresses luk good mostly due to their nice colors BUT they lack big time in quality and that's the forte of our dresses.

Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

^Agreed 100%

Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

I think theirs are more creative/fun but ours are more elegant..

Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

Having access to both sides, and owning clothes from both sides, here are my observations:

Pakistani cotton and lawn material is superior. I prefer the stitching of an everyday wear shalwar kurta and formal wear from Pakistan. But if you know these basics, you can get a Pakistan quality suit in India, so when I go there, because I have the advantage, I can find great material and great tailors to produce a Pakistani style outfit. Now in big cities, boutiques sell Pakistani style clothes as well....in North India.

Indian sarees and blouse stitching is most definitely better in India.

Re: Difference of Pakistani and Indian Dresses

On top of quality .... Pakistani dresses have variety whereas Indian dress seem to stuck with same fashion style. It differs by a dot every now and then.
