Can somebody tell that?
Re: Difference between Rheumatoid Arthritis vs Osteoarthritis?
RA is autoimmune - your own immune system goes crazy and start attacking joints.
OA is usually wear and tear disease - as you get old, you use up your joint and your cartilage degenerates.
Re: Difference between Rheumatoid Arthritis vs Osteoarthritis?
Bang on; but for gen population - inflammatory arthritis like RA usually cause morning pain and stiffness especially in small joints like that of hands
Whereas Wear & Tear arthritis like OA mostly pain is later in day and morning stiffness isn't present
Important to make that demarcation as treatment for the two is completely different and I have come across patient who have been treated in completely wrong way especially for inflammatory arthritis.
Anyone has had a bad experience with joint pain treatment?

Re: Difference between Rheumatoid Arthritis vs Osteoarthritis?
Well, all I know is that my Ammi had both...RA & Osteoarthritis...she used to get cortisone shots and was Celebrex forever for the inflammation, until she randomly developed an allergy to Celebrex and that was awful. At age 58 she had to have a total hip replacement because her pelvic joint had basically disintegrated to nothing.
Re: Difference between Rheumatoid Arthritis vs Osteoarthritis?
I find alot of awareness for medical conditions in the western patients whereas visiting Pakistan I was surprised how little we knew even what ails us, Pisiform ( I like ur nick - out of all those carpals!! :))
Khattichic - very sorry to hear that - OA commonly complicates RA - RA treatment ka important step huta hai what is called Disease Modifying Drugs (DMDs), these are started as Sparers for both steroids and Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs like Celebrex. As the name suggests DMDs delays possibly avoid adverse outcomes. Unfortunately your mother was never considered for that. I hope she's doing better now?
