Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

I bought an Indian cookbook and most of the things I make are from there. My husband doesn’t know I’ve bought it, but he once commented my food tastes too Indian lol. I didn’t know there was a difference! Is there?

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

oh there is a difference for sure. what i have noticed is that indian food seems to have too many spices mixed in and each dish taste very similar because of that. And pakistan food, each dish has different spices and taste fdifferent.

Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

Lol…all I know is that my Pakistani husband and his family prefer my style of cooking to their own :cb:

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

They would even if you were martian…'coz they love u.

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

Yeah my food does taste quite similar. It’s nice… but similar lol. I made koftay aaloo one night, and the next night made salmon salan. The shorba for both tasted exactly the same :bummer:

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

Hydro cooking is in a different category, altogether. Even I prefer it over Pakistani cuisine, but typical Indian food is something I can’t enjoy.

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

Surely Indian food is different to ours. I have felt that Pakistani food is more richer in taste n Indian food has a typical smell that is in all cuisines. Hyderabadi cooking is surely different, they have variety in their taste, although I like very much hyedrabadi food but its only to twist my taste buds and in regular routine I’m much addicted to the Pakistani food of my household

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

i find indian curries to be sweet/sweeter then pakistani ones.
They also use cream more frequently in their curries and are heavier handed with their turmeric use as compared to pakistanis.

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

the amount of oil floating on top of the dish. :hayaa:

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

It bugs me when my non-desi coworkers sing praises of our food but they confuse Indian food with Pakistani. It’s so different! I just point them to authentic Pakistani restaurants so they can see the difference for themselves. :hypo:

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

haha truee queer! pakistani food is notorious for that 2 inch layer of oil on top of salans isnt it!

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

it’d be unfair if i didnt add that i personally prefer eating at pakistani restaurants compared to the average cheap indian ones. the indian ones serve the same 5 dishes at their buffets, underspiced for their white clientele. but things like “all indian food smells the same, tastes the same” is pure nonsense.

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

^ That’s the problem - Indian food in Indian restaurants tastes the same (actually the same can be said for Punjabi and some Pakistani restaurants). But, yep - if you find a good Indian cook, the food is amazing!!! And the best thing is that it is well-flavoured without being overly spiced - the things they can do to and with vegetables :hayaa:

Totally agree with this!!

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

I’m the only one who can’t see a difference in south asian cuisines :frowning: It’s all just spices to me.

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

Is labeling someone with nonsense over just an opinion over food is thought to be mannerful nowadays, I doubt this coz when even the forum manager likes the comment!!!:halo:

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

How come can you agree to someone stating a rude statement? Just over an opinion u would label some one this!?

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

-__- someone? i labeled the sentence as nonsensical. is the sentence a person? relax..

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

I think that the key to food having a distinct flavour is that each particular dish be seasoned, without being overly spiced or under spiced, and prepared in a manner that is unique and specific to that particular dish. Usually, when food all tastes the same, it’s because the person preparing it prepares every dish in a same or similar manner and uses the same spices for every dish, regardless of what the dish is.

Oddly enough, Iranians say the same thing about our cuisine, that it all tastes the same and that their cuisine is more distinct.

Re: Difference between Pakistani and Indian cooking?

May be my experience is limited or its because I’m Pakistani and I like my food as any Turkish, arabic, labenese or whatsoever ppl would like their food that I feel smell of Indian food is by alike but I seriously have eaten from some restaurants and from Indian friends there is some specific uniform smell In Indian dishes which I did not say in any negative way. And yes they use turmeric more than us
