Difference between Kohli and Afridi

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

Aussies get a clean chit? Ponting's notorious for his proudly established repuation as a sore loser, he's just lucky he's not known for losing many matches. I don't think Aussies get a clean chit for their behaviour, not in English press at least.

Admittedly, I don't know much about current Australian team and their on and off field behaviour, am I wrong for assuming that Micky Clark is still the most and perhaps the only well behaved cricketer in their camp?

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

OK. My point was what Kohli appears to have done ( I didn't see it) pales in comparison with what the Aussies do to their opponent. And yes Ponting was Mr. Unsporting.

Michael Clark conducts himself well. But as captain, he does nothing to rein in his players' taaunting of the opposition.

I haven't seen the specific taunts Kohli is alleged to have directed at the Pak batsmen. I have followed his career. That he can be brash, there is no doubt. Depending on who does it, it is. considerrd arrogant ( Kohli) or fighting ( Lillee).

Kohli most of the time gives as good as he gets. This time, based on what I hear, he gave more than needed.

Much as Arjuna avoided Dronacharya in battle, for he knew the Acharya was too good, I am going to move sideways and proceed towards Jayadratha now.

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

I suppose Lilee's lucky to have never played under such media scrutiny with massive viewership. Superficial aggression always looks distasteful and the player who practices such thing always stands out like sore thumb. I feel certain Indian players like just like to portray the stereotypical image of a young angry Punjabi man for cameras, they’ve turned into some kind of trademark and to me personally it looks as cheesy as Afridi promptly doing his hands in the air celebration after getting a Bangladeshi tail ender out in the first innings. Am I the only one who thinks that guy has over done his celebratory salute?

Sorry Southie, I stopped watching cricket a long while ago but I am still very old school about certain things. For that reasons, no matter how great of a legend Ponting is and what a champion captain and batsman he's been, I would never put him in the same league as Lara and Sachin. And second old school cricketing view I have is that only express fast bowlers look visually appealing when they sledge the opposition in all huffing puffing mode.

P.S: I thought Arjuna respected his teacher so much to try defeating him but hey, what do I know about the epic that’s Mahabharat.

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

The GS Acharya is too good. Hence decision to move sideways and avoid battle a wise one. Even if the reason may not be exactlty as first given.

Arjuna salutes the Acharya and proceeds. The Acharya gives Arjuna his blessings.

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

Hmmm I wonder who's Acharaya and who's Arjuna in this case?

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

Saeed Anwar
Rahul Dravid
Mohammad Yousuf Youhana

True gentlemen of this sport.

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

Did you mean Saeed in Pakistan?

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

^ yes I think, Saeed Anwar... Is there any other Saeed in international cricket?

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

I found a new spot :barbie:

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

there's no resemblance between Kohli and Afridi...Kohli is a child in front of Afridi. Can't you see how Kohli behaves on the field? At least, it doesn't suit a captain the way he is on the field. He is not a good captain..and when Afridi did the job of the captain, he was great.

last but not least: noone can be compared to the one and only Afridi (in cricket).

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

You have no right to point out it like this"howw he is and has been as a human being"; He is a very down to earth and humble person, he is always thanking Allah and thanking his team mates, and he is always supporting them. You don't know him personally, so you should not believe whatever pakistani qaum says when it is angry, they say whatever they want to...and bad are those who believe whatever they hear.....

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

So when did I lost my right to point anything out? And how do you know I don't know him personally?

OP criticized Kohli for not being a role model and presented Afridi as one which I consider totally unfair. They both are sporting heroes for their respective nations but on personal front, Afridi falls even shorter than Kohli in my eyes. Kohli needs to do things beyond making ridiculous faces at opponents and using expletives at reaching milestones to get where Afridi is standing as a person. Things like scuffing pitches, biting balls, abusing team-mates, bashing seniors, beating fans.. things like that.

Still, what an innings against Bangladesh. When it comes to changing the course of a match in no time, no one, not even Kohli reaches Afridi's prowesses. As that great late commentator Tony Greig used to put it.. "WADDDDAAA PLAYAAA!!"

Re: Difference between Kohli and Afridi

Well, you haven't forgotten him. Have you, Sir ji? :)
