The difference is that crooked banya has nothing which is ‘last word’ and can not change.
There is not a single practice in Hinduism which has not changed in course of time. That does not make anyone lee Hindu or anti-hindu. There is not a single belief that has not been challenged in course of time. Even people who claimed ‘trayo vedasya kartar bhand, dhurt, nishachara’ (the three vedas are written by thieves and cheats) and told people to consume and enjoy life, like Maharshi Charvak, are Hindu philosophers. There is no concept of ‘bidaat’. The people like Raja Rammohan Roy or BR Ambedkar are held in respect even by Hindu fundamentalist partyies unlike Kemal Ataturk.
This makes reforms, changes possible in Hinduism as opposed to Islam which does not want to change an inch from a 1400 year old scriptures andc to make like more complicated, innnumerable hadiths.
so if anyone can change and make amendments to hinduism then heck... why even bother calling urself one. why not live a life that suits ur needs?
so a rapist can make amendments to hinduism and make it a good deed.... a crook can call deceiving others to be a holy act?

There have been people who tried making that kind of amendments. There have been rather shady sects. They did not succeed. But they had their chance.
