Difference between brocade and jamavar and banarsi..

Whats the difference

Re: Difference between brocade and jamavar and banarsi..

the design in jamavar is completely woven into the fabric, kind of like a tapestry weave, there are no loose threads on the back side

banarsi designs are worked into silk cloth, they arent completely incorporated into the fabric, so if u look at the back of the fabric, u will see some loose threads and threads jumping from one design motif to the next ( you can actually ruin the design if too many come out)

brocade is a lot thicker than both jamavar and banarsi, its kinda like the chinese fabric that is so in today (except the design is a lot denser and there is usually a lot of gold thread involved)

Re: Difference between brocade and jamavar and banarsi..

hmm i was wondering wat the diff is btwn benarsi and jamavar...n trying to find out why banarsi is more expensive.....but i still don't really get it

I luv jamavar so elegant. i'd integrate it into every outfit if I could

Re: Difference between brocade and jamavar and banarsi..

asimaan is absolutely right - there is another fabric called kamkhab - basically a more intriquite form of banarsi - richer and more expensive

Re: Difference between brocade and jamavar and banarsi..

omg^ i loveeee kamkhab!! my mother's wedding gharara was ivory kamkhab..its soooo heavy (no kaam though) and has such a luxurious feel/look to it! so glad i got to wear it for my mehndi :)

Re: Difference between brocade and jamavar and banarsi..

Isn't kamkhab kind of velvet... like a high-quality velvet or something?
