Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

^ That sounds like a lot of milk for that age group, but if he's eating well, it's all good, mashAllah!

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

At the ageof 2, children should drink about 16-24 oz of milk (2-3 cups) a day. 2%is fine at that age, not whole milk.

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

Mine is 17 months old and on most of the days it is like this:

Breakfast:
Omelet, usually with cheese followed by a cup of milk.Very recently she had started to show interest in toast…yaaay..!
OR
Paratha stuffed with whatever is cooked (qeema/chicken/vegetable) followed by a cup of milk (8 ozs.)

Afternoon snack/lunch
This can be before her afternoon nap(if she takes a nap around 2 pm) or after she wakes up from it(if she went down for a nap around noon time),..some fruit …despite my efforts she is not a big fan of fruit…:(…
Or some pasta or paratha (if she hasn’t had it already earlier in the day).

Dinner:
Whatever we are having.Usually it is rice with whatever is cooked.Sometimes it is roti,if that is what we are having. Her favorite is rice and chicken though.

Bedtime:
8 ozs of milk with cereal.

She usually has 2 cups of milk a day.some days it is 3 cups.
If I look at it,only breakfast and dinner are proper meals for her.Lunch is just a fun time, and I dont force her because she just runs away from it…:bummer:

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

It's! And my brother and his wife are trying really hard to cut the amount down to only one bottle a day and one at night, but they haven't been able to do so. Looks like they'll have an extremely difficult time getting the little one off the bottle.

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

My SIL was actually giving him 2% for a couple of weeks, but when they took him to the doctor for one of his (regular) checkups, they were told to switch to whole milk instead.

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

I feed my kid spicy biryani, fried chicken, samosas, soda and most importantly, cupcakes, cookies, and cake..... nothin but the best for my gulab jamun. :)

Ok, now I’m totally depressed, my 6 yr old twins weigh 33 lbs/35 lbs…they are in -5 percentile :(. But they eat so healthy Mashallah, one if them is almost a vegetarian, doesn’t like the taste/texture of meat & chicken but will eat fish & shrimp…out pediatrician (Indian) assures me that they are fine, are active, alert and have met all developmental targets, so I’ve tried to stop obsessing, considering that their birth eights were 3 lbs 11 oz & 4 lbs 2 oz, we’ve come a long way!!! And they are pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

thanx every body for ur inputs.
Sahar how old is ur daughter??

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

She is 20 months now, mashAllah.

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

Really? My doctor said to aim to get her down to 1 cup a day by age 2.

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

I got mine off the bottle a month ago, but she just stopped drinking milk. So I thought I'd let her have it for a few more months, and then just stop all together when she's 2 inshAllah, and milk is less critical.

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

I have been told that by age 2 they should be having 2 cups/day.
I am not sure if there is a hard and fast rule to it...the parent can be the better judge.I mean at 2 years if milk is all that they are having,it wont be doing them any good..!

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

No need to be depressed.

My girls were smaller babies and have lower percentiles too. The older one has maintained a steady chart and what docs say is that if you have a kid that maintains the chart you are fine. Of course you work hard at making them eat more but if they are developing normally, meeting their milestones, are active, then no worries. My younger was higher in percentiles but last year she dropped down…could be due to more activity less food…some temporary changes as her bloodwork/stool exams all came back normal. However as she fell, her doc has asked me to see a nutritionist to get a guideline on what to eat. Once I get that, I’ll post it out for you . However, she’s already gaining back her weight mashaAllah as I have increased her intake of calorie + nutrition dense foods. She is a growing child, very healthy mashaAllah and extremely active, so overall I’m not worried. But we do want to get her percentiles up.

Re: diet routine for a 18 months old baby

We were told that at 2ish, kids need 16-24 ounces of milk a day. My 2.5 year old takes two to three sippy cups of milk a day. Rest, she doesnt eat much, but she has always been like this. She is really picky. She has a cup of milk for breakfast, then some days she wants nutella on toast, some days its part of her lunch. She eats lunch at day care so i pack a variety of things in hope that she will eat atleast half of it. I include pasta with keema or chicken, cheese stick (which she loves usually), boiled egg, some fruit and dry cereal etc. Some times i get her pizza or home made muffins. Most days most of her lunch comes back although she is starving. For dinner i make sure she eats something substantial like roti. But she does not like eating salan. She also has fruit as a snack and sometimes yogurt if she wants it, in the evening. Extremely picky and some days she does not even want her fav foods. She weighs 27 lbs and her doc thinks she is just a skinny child (takes after her dad).
