diesel and petrol

Re: diesel and petrol

and Torque is?

I still dont know which is better

according to the beginning of this thread diesel was a major polluter..nad then it wasnt and now there is Torque involved to.

Re: diesel and petrol

Anyway - Diesel is very low octane.

Basically, diesel is a by-product of petrol refining. It is the fuel of choice in large indutrial applications such as ships, lorries and tractors, because it is a better fuel. However, it was historically noisy and smelly, so it was unpopular in passenger cars.

Advances in European and Japanese diesel technology means that modern diesels are as quiet as petrol engines, and less polluting. This is why, in the EU, diesel engines are taxed less.

Indeed, there are rumours that the EU is planning on outlawing petrol engines in new cars in one or 2 decades and allowing only diesel-engined cars to be sold in Europe.

Re: diesel and petrol

Great! While EU can do diesel, we will enjoy the hybrids and electric in 2 decades.

And lazy, torque is like a wrench, you know to move stuff around.

Re: diesel and petrol

Frozen diesel on stick can make a fabulous springtime snack for kids.

Re: diesel and petrol

^ now THAT is a piece of information. it must be nutritious, isnt it? still nerdy look

Re: diesel and petrol

That’s because americans can never give up sucking petrol. On anything other than short inter-city trips, a modern diesel will give more miles per gallon than a hybrid. Hybrid engines only use the electric component at low speeds - at highway speed they are running on the regular petrol engine and therefore underperforming versus a diesel.

Re: diesel and petrol

And you think after 2 decades hybrids will be the same?

Re: diesel and petrol

LD Octanes are CH molecular structures containing 8 (octa) carbon atoms, hence the name octanes. They can have many different chemical formulas like the following:

H-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-H :mocking:

Gasoline can contain molecules with 5,6, or 7 carbon atoms. The octane rich or high-octane fuel is heavier than then lighter gasoline and has a higher boiling point. Higher boiling point helps the fuel to burn slowly and create a firm positive push on the cylinders. Lighter gasoline tend to burn in explosive fashion, thus causing knocking effect. :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: diesel and petrol

Ahh its all making sense now.

Re: diesel and petrol

^LD, i think you are a chem whiz who is just playing pranks on these unsuspecting monkeys, including myself.:D

Re: diesel and petrol

^ is it? Oh did you have that nutritious snack of frozen diesel dope mentioned? So, it is good for brains, humm?

edit: meant for LD

Re: diesel and petrol

daizy - next time dont miss your chemistry class

Re: diesel and petrol

Brute,i have to admit that many many many years ago I missed a few

The reason for this thread is that I get told by sales peopel in car showrooms, who incidently look around 15 years old that I shouldnt buy Diesel cars and some say I should, dad says I should neighbour says I should, Top gear says they are rubbish

its all terribly confusing for a lil ole daisy
so i wanted to know the difference between the actual oils

the new wannabee, no I didnt because my feet are cold but im going to have a nice warm glass of petrol as advised by Mr anwar Qureshi it tastes of chocolate I think.

I 'll pour some in a saucepan and put it on a high heat on my Gas cooker to heat up.

you want some?

Re: diesel and petrol

Girls buy cars for reasons other than looks? :-O

Be like MM and buy a purple Mini .. Or was it orange?

Re: diesel and petrol

Everyone is lying to you Lazy luv, Diesel has nothing to do with chemistry at all. I know what Im talking about, I have a pair Diesel jeans, they are very very comfortable.

AJee, I will own a Mini Cooper S, not the plain Mini. Im surprised you remembered the colour too, orange it is.

Re: diesel and petrol

And I will own a 53 Corvette! Sureeee ...

The other day I saw an orange mini in town (it may have been a Cooper S) and it was U G L Y

Re: diesel and petrol

You dooooo Missy??? I want one too but I;m too poor. Maybe I can trade in my assistant for the car.

And Diesel is all about shoes. I swear.

Re: diesel and petrol

Ugh you WILL own one. I thought u already had one . Phew, thank God you don;t. Now I feel much better.

Re: diesel and petrol

Diesel comes from Iraq and Petrol from Saudi Arabia. Similarly Iran has natural gas and Pakistan has sui gas.
Hope that helps.

Re: diesel and petrol

I cannot go around buying cars, when feet need shoes. I'm waiting for my professor to get tenure to pay for the car.

AJee I WILL own a Mini Cooper S in orange, they look FABULOUS and I need it, I don't want it, there is a difference. Have you seen the inside of the Mini Cooper S AJee? Its proper lush, its more gorgeous than Brad Pitt!!!
