I always found him to be one of the funniest comedians…I now have a deep sense of respect for him as well…

In reality, he felt the show’s content were in contrast to Islamic beliefs. He at first wanted to make hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) but ended up counseling with a Muslim friend in South Africa. On May 14, Chappelle gave an interview to Time Magazine’s South African bureau chief. Chappelle denied any drug or mental problems but stated that his reasons for visiting South Africa were to reflect on his life and career. “
“I don’t normally talk about my religion publicly because I don’t want people to associate me and my flaws with this beautiful thing. And I believe it is a beautiful religion if you learn it the right way. It’s a lifelong effort. Your religion is your standard. Coming here I don’t have the distractions of fame. It quiets the ego down. I’m interested in the kind of person I’ve got to become. I want to be well rounded and the industry is a place of extremes. I want to be well balanced. I’ve got to check my intentions, man.”
Wikipedia says in an article on Dave that he converted to Islam in 1998. But two articles printed in Time in May 2005 which you can read online do not associate Dave to Islam very directly. He has not announced publicaly his allegance to Islam. But the wording of the articles tells you that he has converted to Islam.
mashAllah I have witnessed many converting to Islam in different cities of USA and Canada. That moments are very emotional when some one is doing 'SHAHADA't" in your presence!
We being Muslim should keep on educating them, unfortunately mostly converted Muslims are left to live by themselve! We need to feel our resposnibilty for them!
e.g. I have seen a black American coming to Masjid for prayers but he was smelling Alcohal ... This is where we need to come forward and educate them further! ... May Allah help all of us aamin...
