Did you know !!!!!!

that the cricket world cup has gone to LEFT & RIGHT hand Combination:

1979 West Indies Clive Loyd Left Hand.
1983 India Kapil Dev Right Hand.
1987 Australia Allan Border Left Hand.
1992 Pakistan Imran Khan Right Hand.
1996 Sri Lanka A Ranatunga Left Hand.
1999 Australia Steve Waugh Right Hand.
2003

If sri Lanka & India makes it to the finals; then we have two left hand captains. 2003!!! who will it be?

Did you know in 1975 WC and in 1979 WC both captains were right handed :ahaa:

Sounds likes a conspiracy to me.

Nevertheless, I am intrigued. Please, share some more of your pearls of wisdom, o wise one.

No…Loyd was left handed.

My Mistake but still, that destroys the whole theory of left-right thingy. If the captains were left and right every WC, then how come 75 and 79 had both lefts.

now if we have MODI captaining the kenyan side as he did in the game against the aussies, then we'll have another left-handed contender....

tell this to the kenyans and they will surely be on some doubt....

and hey what if ponting is injured and gilchrist has to take over as the skipper....

then we'll be in a real mess :p

now it will b a right hand batsman Ricky Ponting :D

This is a nice entertaining thread! Thanks.

Like the Punxuitanny(sp!) Bill theory and the Republican / Deomcratic election to Wall Street theory.

Anyway, coming from the land of superstitions, the "Not looser" theory predicts India will win - absolutely. The only condition required is they don't loose.

You beginning to sound like some of the sub continent commentators. :hehe:

The similarity ends there. I like to think I am a better cricketer than the likes of Yashpal, Ravi Shastri etc (the teethless wonders that play copy book style defence for 100's of overs - and it doesn't really matter if they're batting or bowling - it all looks the same).

As no captain has lifted the cup ** twice** except him. So he can be taken as one entry ;)

the world cup normally follows the 4 year format/gap. then why is it that, it didn't follow that pattern in 1999 in england, that was 3 years from 1996, it shouldn't have been held in 1999 but it should have been held in 2000.

i don't understand!

No its not true.
Cricket seasone all over the world Except England always start duirng Septmeber of every year and go up to March April of next year .Thats why cricket season is specified as combination fo 2 year liek 1987-88.But in case of english season its always single year like 1987 or 1988.
Since initial 3 worldcups were in England they are known as 1975,1979,1983 World cup.Next one was in subcontinant so its knows as 1987-88 world cup.Next one was in AUs so 1991-92.
6th Worldcup was again in Asia so its 1995-96 World cup.
7th again went to England so techniall it was 1999-2000 but its known as 1999 Worldcup.
And now its 2003 it wil be knows as 2002-2003 WC.

I agree.

here is another bit of silly trivia.

Australia has now won 16 ODI on trot. Last time they won 16 tests on trot they lost to India.

So Australia is goign to lose the final because it is the 17th match. :hehe:

This is Indian conspiracy. India won the cup in 83 (an odd number) and Pakistan won it in 92 (an even number). Jagmohan Dalmiya asked for the cup to be moved back to odd year so that India can win it again. These Indians as supersticious as they are, think they will win with a left hander and odd year this time around.

Reasons

** got it in an email :) **

3 Reasons why India will get the World Cup ....

Reason 1: Captain of winning teams

1979 - Captain - Clive Lloyd -Left Hander
1983 - Captain -Kapil Dev -Right Hander
1987 - Captain - Border -Left Hander
1992 - Captain -Imran Khan -Right Hander
1996 - Captain - Ranatunga -Left Hander
1999 - Captain - Steve Waugh -Right Hander
2003 -- Is he going to be a left hander again ?? ?

Is it Ganguly???

Reason 2: Statistics

Now... statistics shows that after the league matches of this world cup, Australians have won 12 cosecutive matches + 3 in super six and +1 in semis makes it 16 and they meet India in Finals.

Remember ....... Its the same Ganguly and Boys who broke the sequence of 16 consecutive test victories by aussies.....

So they will make it again World cup is Indias.........

Reason 3: The Arithmatic Progression

i) West Indies were the champions in 1975 and 1979. The difference between the years is 4.

ii) Aussies were the champions in 1987 and 1999. The difference between the years is 12.

By Arithmetic Progression the next number is of course 20. (4, 12, 20).

So the 2003 champions are none other than the champions in 1983. Since 2003-1983 == 20. YES it is INDIA!!

** kind of funny for me**

Is hisaab sai Pakistan ki baari kab aani hai?

umer  you do the rest of math
