you could be a magna cum laude from the number 1 ranked uni in your field, and award winner for student leadership or sports.

that would be an excellent CV w/o any work experience.

While I am not denying the existence of racism, there are other factors as well:

  • How much networking have you done?
  • What's your 'story' - meaning how you want to connect the job at hand to your larger goals? Where you are coming from and where you are going?
  • Enthusiasm for the position! You have to show motivation to be working in that role.

Recently a young caucasian kid came to interview for a summer internship, not only was unprepared but also yawned at some of the questions. I pretty much cut the interview short. He was in and out in 10 minutes. My colleagues thanked me for not wasting anyones time. Mind you this was a bright kid (on paper), had the right Ivy background, top notch grades, and even had a III after his name. While all of that may have been terrific, none of wanted an ipod playing, non-stop texting dbag who was not there to learn but rather adding another "credential" to the resume.

While times are bleak and things might look bad, do keep the faith in Allah (SWT) and keep doing the right things. Something will come through eventually..that's for sure.

I was always lucky in findidng jobs, i got both my current jobs by simply walking in at the right time, My garage employer had literally just sacked one fellow for lack of dedication when i walked in and asked for a job...... when asked when i could start i took off my jacket to reveal i was already wearing overalls and had my tools and said right away sir.

The second job is part time as a garage supervisor and audio/electrical specialist. Basically the boss from job one said fancy another and i said OK.

Everyday i thank Allah for this good luck, i had left from home and had a job within an hour when i told my parents and sibblings they couldn't believe it and told me their prayers were with me...... They sure are. ;)
