Bakra ? I mean on baqra eid we are supposed to do that , but I could never do it. Now I send money back home to my elder brother who does it for me.
Do you have the guts to do that ?

I tried once but I was doing it so light handedly that the butcher snatched the knife back from me saying that you are torturing the goat by doing it so slowly. :(
Re: Did you ever cut the throat of a
The men in our family every Eid get together to slaughter the bakarays but I could never stand the site.....my dad is the one the does it in our immediate family, he does it without a blink.....my brothers on the other hand are just standing around.....I don't think that they would be able to do it

Yes bro.. u have to do it quickly with the sharpest knife so that the animal wont feel the pain what it will happen to it..
Re: Did you ever cut the throat of a
I've done in many a chicken and duck, but never a bakra, and no doubt it would be haram for a woman to do it on eid anyway...

Re: Did you ever cut the throat of a
no.. never even seen it first-hand, only chickens and that was bad enough watching them flapping about and struggling.. shoudn't say it but I'd prob end up vegetarian if I watched a cow or goat getting its throat cut.. and besides they usually don't even do it properly 'back home', the animal is not meant to see other animals being killed first or loads of blood around indicating what's going to happen to it so it doesn't get too distressed :(
Re: Did you ever cut the throat of a
no ive never done it myself, and yes i hope i'd never have to do it, cos im soft. but but i think i'd get used to it if i needed to
things to remember because halal food is often connected with cutting the throat. firstly prayer is said to sacrifice the animal for eating. we should be grateful to the allmighty for this food, more grateful then we are. we are not allowed to waste food or 'kill' an animal. secondly the throat is cut to allow the heart of the animal to pump the blood out, blood contains a form of urine, and all faeces and urine are forbidden for us to consume. indeed animals which eat their own faeces are haraam altogather.
non halal methods aim to also pump the blood out but till this day is less effective by simply hanging the dead animal upside down.
