We are experiencing several earth tremors for almost a week and its so scary.
A lady Esther was telling me she visited someone and he said Oh someone is shaking me. Esther laughed at him and then she panicked…OMG someone is shaking me too. No-one knew what was happening.
Yday, at 5.15 pm the whole house shook and we flew downstairs my daughter barefoot. Almost all the residents came down and waited cos we had no idea what to do. 9.30 pm my bed shook and windchimes started ringing…sooo haunting!
Then this morning at 4.15 am we got phone calls that there was going to be earthquake and so we should be prepared (and this was info from UN)…prepared… what the hell …we did not know what to do so I packed my passport and ID in my purse, woke my daughter and made her wear her shoes and gown and told her when I say run you just go downstairs. Anyway till 5.30 am nothing so I went to sleep daughter slept in her shoes!
I thought we were so privileged to have info from UN, but today found out that every Amar Akbar Anthony knew about this and vacated their houses. Some Asians went to temples/mosques(I think tonite they will be prepared with pakoras and masala chai in thermos and plastic cups) and also Africans from different areas heard the rumour…variations being US embassy alerted about the earthquake…
Gosh Nairobi is a real Rumourville. We can even cheat the occurrence of natural events by passing on rumours!
And the icing on the cake is we have the greatest crack in the world The Great Rift Valley and our earthquake detecting sesmiologic-thingy machine had been vandalized by petty criminals 8 months ago!!! And no-one thought of repairing/replacing it. So we are getting our “info” from Uganda/Zambia OMG!
Please pray as we are so far from being prepared for natural disasters.
