There was a period of six months between nikah and rukhsati for us. Initially my parents were like any other desi parents and wary of us going out. But slowly, we were allowed to go out and we would go for walks, or lunches etc. In our minds, it made us feel more comfortable with each other in the sense that what we were doing (going out or talking on the phone) was halal.
