Ok My dear brother n siters,I think the issue of Mawled has been magnified here recently and often presented in a negative frame and made a tool misused to attack those who like this event and particpate in it preserving the laws of our fine Shariah, bounded by the rules of Quran and Saheeh of the Sunnah.
I will, insha-Allah, however, try to shed some light on this issue for you. Bear in mind, that since this issue has been magnified, I am unable to address every issue pertaining to it, however, please feel free to ask if you have any doubt. Before I start, I would like to remind you that what unites us, binds us, bound us, and regulate us is the Holy Qur^an and the Saheeh of the Sunnah.
We, Ahlus sunnah wal Jama^a, do not profess blind imitation to anybody scholar or otherwise, if it is indeed
contradictory with the fine teaching of the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam.
Now, having this in mind, know -may Allah guide me and you- that in Islam there are two Ids, Id al-Adha
and `Id al-Fitr. Other celebrations, like Mawled, are neither obligatory nor forbidden. However, we have come
to a time in which we hear too much complaining about the remembrance of the Prophet’s birthday, although
there are more important matters that concern Muslims nowadays.
We are living in a time when the enemies of Islam are destroying the Umma of the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam, from within and without, without mercy, and there are now very few believers who are able to oppose them with adequate proofs from the Qur^an and the saheeh of Sunnah.
We have reached a time of semi-jahiliyya (ignorance) among the Muslims, so much so that the Truth has become a commodity and Falsehood has become the norm. Allah Almighty is ordering believers said which means: “Hold fast to the Rope of Allah and do not separate” (Ali`Imran 103).
Yet in this time, more than any other time, we are finding that the attacks of our enemies are not
the only cause of our suffering. Within our own home, the Umma is being attacked and harmed deeply by some
people, whom we don’t like to name but who are well-known.
They are not happy to fight the enemies of Islam but instead find it necessary to fight Muslims and the community of believers throughout the Muslim world.
They spend money, allocate time and resources and go the extra mile to create division, chaos and confusion
among muslims. They take great pains to find anything that their scholars might consider doubtful as an excuse
to deride and denigrate the faith of Muslims, calling them names like: mushrik, kafir, mubtadi. And they have nothing better to do than to change what Muslim scholars have accepted as correct for 1400 years, and to call it bida, shirk, and kufr!
Please be patient with me as I will -insha-Allah explain it backed up by solid and undoubtable proofs.
The birth of the Prophet of Islam, sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam, and the dawn of his prophethood was
not the birth of a Prophet alone, nor was it the rise of a new nation, nor yet the beginning of a new era, but it
was the genesis of a new world which is destined to last till te end of time.
The influence of his Prophethood is still visible in everything that the world now contains, the beliefs and patterns of thought, culture and civilization, the morals and models of living, the knowledge an learning, simply stated, all spheres of human endeavor.
When the Muslim world commemorates the coming to this world of the Prophet who surpasses all other
prophets, the Perfect Man, whose advent signified the end of ignorance and darkness and the coming of the
age of enlightenment and salvation not only for Muslims, but for all mankind instead.
To celebrate the Prophet’s birthday is to celebrate Islam, because the Prophet is the symbol of Islam. Before going in-depth into explanations, I would like to present three statements:
Scholars of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama^a, such as Imam Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalaaniy, Al-Imam Assooyootiy,
Al-Imam Asubki, Nawawiyy..etc. and the recent ones such as our recent shaykhs Abdullah bin Assiddeeqq
Al-Ghumaari, Shaykhy wa Sayyidiy Yahya bin Muhammad nino Ar-Rifaaiyy Al-Husayny and
others….stressed and emphasized on the fact the Mawled is an innovation of guidance that is permissible and
moreover recommended given that: the gatherings at the Mawled are intended and done accordingly for the
reading of the holy Qur^an, learning the hadeeth of the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam, hearing of
his Sira (Life) and listening to Madh (Praise) that has been written for him is acceptable, and that giving food to
poor people and bringing happiness to the Umma on that occasion is acceptable.
-
We say that the celebration of the Prophet’s Mawled must not only be on the 12th of Rabi al-Awwal, but can and should be on every day of every month in every mosque, and in every house, in order for people to feel the light of Islam and the light of Sharia in their hearts. Remember the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi
wa sallam, did not just come for one day, nor to one nation, nor to one occasion. Instead, He, sallallahu alayhu
wa aalihi wa sallam, came to everybody and reliving His Sira should be everyday’s mission and practice.
-
We say that Mawled gatherings are an effective and efficient means for the purpose of calling people to
Islam and educate children, that these meetings give a golden opportunity that must not be lost, for every
scholar and da`i to teach and remind the Nation of the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam, of his
good character, his way of worshipping, and his way of treating people. This is a way to make children love
and remember their Prophet, by giving them food and juice and gifts to make them happy.
4- Last but not least, everything that is done at the Mawled MUST be done in STRICT accordance and
UNCOMPROMISED adherence to the Book And Saheeh of the Sunnah.
Having said this and set out the rules, I do not thing there a further need to clearify any more misconception,
misunderstanding, or confusion regarding this. Here is what some of the renowned scholars of Islam say
regarding Mawled.
Al-Imam Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti said in his Hawi li al-fatawa: "The Sheikh of Islam and hadith master of his age,
Ahmad ibn Hajar (`Asqalani) was asked about the practice of commemorating the birth of the Prophet, and
gave the following written reply:
As for the origin of the practice of commemorating the Prophet’s birth, it is an innovation that has not been
conveyed to us from any of the pious early muslims of the first three centuries, despite which it has included
both features that are praiseworthy and features that are not.
If one takes care to include in such a commemoration only things that are praiseworthy and avoids those that are otherwise, it is a praise worthy innovation, while if ones does not, it is not.
An authentic primary textual basis from which its legal validity is inferable has occured to me, namely the
rigorously authenticated (saheeh) hadeeth in the collections of Bukhari and Muslim that the Prophet came to
Medina and found the Jews fasting on the tenth of Muharram (`Ashura '), so he asked them about it and they
replied: “It is the day on which Allah drowned Pharaoh and rescued Moses, so we fast in it to thanks to Allah
Most high,” which indicates the validity of giving thanks to Allah for the blessings He has bestowed on a
particular day in providing a benefit, or averting an affliction, repeating one’s thanks on the anniversary of that
day every year, giving thanks to Allah taking * any various forms of worship such as prostration, fasting, giving
charity or reciting the Koran…
THEN WHAT BLESSING IS GREATER THAN THE BIRTH OF THE
PROPHET, THE PROPHET OF MERCY, ON THIS DAY ? IN LIGHT OF WHICH, ONE SHOULD
TAKE CARE TO COMMEMORATE IT ON THE DAY ITSELF IN ORDER TO CONFORM TO THE
ABOVE STORY OF MOSES AND THE TENTH OF MUHARRAM, [but] THOSE WHO DO NOT
VIEW THE MATTER THUS DO NOT MIND COMMEMORATING IT ON ANY DAY OF THE
MONTH, WHILE SOME HAVE EXPANDED ITS TIME TO ANY OF DAY THE
YEAR, WHATEVER EXCEPTION MAY BE TAKEN AT SUCH A VIEW."
The list of evidences and testification of rightous scholars is longer that we can capacitate and the names are
more than we can count at this moment. Furthermore, according to the Mufti of Mecca Imam Ahmad ibn Zayni
Dahlan, in his book al-Sira al-nabawiyya wa al-athar al-muhammadiyya, “To celebrate the Mawlid and to
remember the Prophet is accepted by all the Ulama of the Muslims.” Most of the following quotations are taken
from that work.
Al-Imam Al-Hafedth As-Subki said, “When we were celebrating the Prophet’s birthday, a great uns
(familiarity) comes to our heart, and we feel something special.”
Imam Abu Shama, the sheikh of Imam Nawawi, said in his book on innovations entitled: al-Baith ala inkar
al-bida` wa al-hawadith:
The best innovation in our day is the remembrance of the Prophet’s birthday. On that day, people give much
donations, make much worship, show much love to the Prophet, and give much thanks to Allah Almighty for
sending them His messenger to keep them on the Sunna and Shari`a of Islam.
Al-Imam Al-Hafedth Ibn Hajar al-Haytami said , “As Jews celebrated the day of `Ashura by fasting to thank
Allah, we also have to celebrate the day of Mawled,” and he quoted the aforementioned hadeeth, “When the
Prophet came to Madina…” Ibn Hajar continues, “One gives thanks to Allah for the favor that He gave on a
particular day either through a great good, or through the averting of a disaster. That day is celebrated every
year thereafter. Thanksgiving entails various forms of worship like prostration, fast, charity, and recitation of
Qur’an, and what greater good is there than the advent of that Prophet, the Prophet of Mercy, on the day of
Mawled?”
Al-Imam Asalafi Ibn al-Jawzi (d. 597) wrote a booklet of poems and sira to be read at Mawled celebrations.
It is entitled Mawlid al-arus and begins with the words: al-hamdu lillah al-ladhi abraza min ghurrati arusi
al-hadrati subhan mustanira: “Praise be to Allah Who has manifested from the radiance of the bridegroom of
His presence a light-giving daybreak…”
I rest my case of what these fine scholars of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama^a said and I entrust that you will find the
path of Ahlus Sunnah the most rightous as , indeed , evidenced.
There is a treatise (Itqaanus Sana^a fee tahqeeq ma^na Albid^a) in Arabic by the Shaykh of my shaykhs,
sayyidy Abdullah bin Assiddeeqq Alghumaari Alhasaniy, rahimahullah, explaining the permissibility of this
innovation of guidance as well as important details regarding the understanding and position of innovation (good
and bad) in Islam, it is a valuable book that every Muslim needs nowadays.
If more evidence on this are needed, please do not hesitate to contact.
Let us pray to Allah, The Exalted, to forgive us from any sins and ask Him for His pardon, praying for His
guidance and by the Will of Allah to strictly follow His Messenger. I pray to Him, subhanahu wa Ta^ala, to
assemble us under the banner of our beloved , the seal of the prophets Muhammad, sallallahu alayhi wa ala
aalihi wa sallam, in the day of judgement with his Al and pious companions. Ameen.
KORANIC EXAMPLE
Prophet Jesus - an example of peace celebration:
“PEACE [Salaam] BE UPON ME THE DAY I WAS BORN,
and on the day I die;
and on the day when I shall be raised up alive.”
KORANIC EXAMPLE
Prophet John the Baptist - an example of Peace celebration:
“PEACE [Salaam] ON HIM ON THE DAY HE WAS BORN
and the day he dies,
and peace be on him when he is raised up alive.”
Any ways brothers despite the Koranic quotations that mention
prayers of peace on Prophets Jesus and John,
many loving followers of Prophet Muhammad
who wrote and led others in compliance with the
Koran have been subjected to fanatical harassment
by the Wahabis/Taymiah sect. The understanding
of the recently emerged Wahabi sect is so narrow,
flawed and incomplete that they have become
arrogant and are of the opinion that they
are the only ones capable of understanding the
spirit of Islam.
INSIGHT TO WAHABISM
Wahabi thinking is so fanatical in all aspects
of their religious understanding, practice
of harassment and terrorism that it is advisable
to disregarded the sect completely.
Their behavior can be compared to the narrowness
of the Pope and his inquisitors, who, in the
middle ages, accused Galileo of heresy and
forced him to recant his theory of the earth’s
movement.
When the first man landed on the moon, the
Wahabi leader broadcast on Saudi Arabian
radio that anyone who believed the landing
to be true is declared an unbeliever!!
Something else is rather surprising -
Wahabi’s believe the earth is not round. If they
were to believe otherwise it would annul
their faith because in their opinion God has
a locale above us. Islam negates this.
With all their billions of dollars -
which incidentally is the result of
Prophet Abraham’s supplication for provision
for Arabia - they have rarely spent on
the welfare of Muslims or indeed humanity
at large. Instead they have either stored,
gambled it away or invested in weapons -
from Nicaragua to the oil fields - but
not to Bosnia and Albania.
Peace
