Did Pakistan military help during Mecca seige? (Split from Mahmood Ghaznavi thread)

If you were there in the streets of Pindi and Lahore, you would have known that Imam Khomeni spread the rumor, and it was seconded by the Mullahs through radios. Within few minutes there was a spontaneous eruption of mob hysteria.

Utter confusion reigned for the first couple of hours. Police and law enforcement agents kept on getting reports of wide scale riots, looting, and attacks on American installations.

Unfortunately it was not just the embassy that they were worried about. There were a dozen or more American installations that included

  1. American consulates in Pindi, Lahore, Karachi (not attacked) etc.
  2. American educational centers in Lahore, Pindi, and Karachi
  3. Other American installations like American schools all over the country.

And Pakistani police failed to quickly respond to the mobs.

You are an Indian. Why don't you study your own mob riots for a moment, instead of launching tirades, insinuations, and lies about Pak army?

From Gujarat to Dilli, you must be familiar with the mob scene. When Sikhs and Muslims or Christians are slaughtered by the Indian mobs, it takes at least 24 hours if not more for the Indian government to deploy paramilitary troops.

In case of Pakistan, yes we should have acted faster to protect our guest diplomats.

However 5-6 hours was mighty good time even by Indian standards. Even though loss of 4 people (1 American, 2 Pakistani staffer, and 1 rioter) is highly regrettable, you must realize that Pakistan law enforcement agencies were finally able to control the mobs and safe 1000's Americans and local staff on all these installations.

I repeat that it is time for you to retract statements you made about culpability of Pak army in attacking US embassy that is if you are man enough to accept your misstatements.

Re: Did Pakistan military help during Mecca seige? (Split from Mahmood Ghaznavi threa

i think the topic is about Pak military in KSA.

I lived in KSA at that time, was a baccha bachoongra but have vivid memories.

It was well known in the Pakistani expat community that pakistani military had helped the fight against the militants. i mean these people's kids went to school with non military personnel, they had friends in the non military pakistani expat population.

I was there days after the incident and the entire mosque was under the watch of Pakistani Military, big time. i saw bullet holes in the clumns and even the blood stains that had stained marble had not been completely cleaned.

It was kept hush hush for the same reason you dont hear about Military support of Jordan against PLO. the public in pakistan would not be able to digest it, and it could be used as a point against the military by others. I mean if Zia was talkign fortress of islam on one hand and had troops fighting extremists in kaaba on the other hand, anti military ppl would go to town with that info.

He was a dictator who did teh whole islam islam thing not just because of his personal beliefs but that was his calling card for power, it calmed JI types, it worked in his favour and it worked to do that whole US-Saudi-Pak proxy war in AFghanistan against Russia later.
