Can anyone who was there at that time tell us something about this? Back in Karachi, a Kuwait resident family in our neighbourhood had to go to Iraq, then Turkey and had to take a plane from there back to Karachi. I was only 11 back then, so don’t remember the details. I know of another person of GS who told a similar story, but it involved driving all the way back.
Also heard to several other stories (3rd or 4th hand) involving hardships and desperate measures to make it out.
Did Pakistan some how forget that its citizens were living there, or was it just not able to get everyone out?

I was younger than you at that time, so I don't remember much. I vaguely recall that the Pakistan embassy in Jordan was accommodating refugees. There were people who practically lived at the embassy for a couple of days. And I think there were some people from the Paki embassy in Iraq too. Don't know about the paki embassy in Kuwait.

many people left but many also stayed behind
they were compensated very well by the kuwaiti government after iraq left

i was one years old when the invasion happened. my dad got kidnapped because he was working in kuwait finance house and the iraqis wanted the ddetails of the accounts of the shaiks etc but my dad didnt sell out and he was tortured but he finally came back home. the pajero he was in was burned by the iraqis with all its contents. we went through iraq by bus and then from there to jordan and from jordan to karachi. when the invasion finished the shaikhs thanked my dad for not selling them out and he was one of the first people to come back to kuwait and start working again. soon after me and my mom and my twin sisters came back to kuwait. and then stayed there for 14 years
and yeah the shaikhs gave alot of money to my dad and a villa in his name as a thank you for the favour he did to them. and yeah we also filed claims for everything that was ruined of ours. the pajero and the businesses and contents of the house etc etc

well im not sure if the pakistani govt did something to get them out.. i dun remember cuz i was just 2 yrs back then.. but 4rm what my parents tell... they stayed in kwt for abt a month during the invasion... n obv there were all sorts of shortages of food n water n stuff.. airport was closed only after a week of the invasion or something.. so most ppl left thru ships... however by the time my parents left.. something was up with the ships as well.. so they had to drive back to pakistan... first thru iraq.. turkey iran... n then pakistan.. they drove all the day from kuwait to lahore.. took them abt a month.. as the iraqi border was closed for a week.. n tonnes of other probs as well...
my dad got his visa again n came back to kuwait... after abt 9 mths... however when he got back here... the whole apartment was empty.. (apparently some irani guy had been living there all this time illegally... n when he found out my dad has returned.. he stole the furniture n ran away!)
n my mom n the rest of us joined my dad back in kwt abt a year after that... n lived there for 17 yrs after that!
