BQM leader gunned down in Orangi
KARACHI, Founder and chief of Bihari Quomi Movement (BQM), Aftab Malik was shot dead on Friday in the remit of Pakistan Bazaar police station, Orangi, Karachi, police said. An official of Pakistan Bazaar Police said that unidentified armed attackers opened indiscriminate firing on Aftab Malik and his guards near his house in Orangi Town no 11/2.
As a result Aftab Malik and four others received bullets wound. They were rushed to Qatar Hospital where the doctors of pronounced the death of Aftab Malik. Later, four other injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Civil Hospital Karachi. Soon after the incident, heavy aerial firing in different parts of Orangi sparked panic and forced the shopkeepers to pull down shutters. Heavy contingents of police and rangers rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area. Aftab Malik was a social worker and also ex-UC Nazim of Orangi Town UC 14. He was elected UC Nazim with the support of Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N). He had recently established BQM and gathered a large numbers of Biharis under its umbrella. Soon after the formation of BQM a series of party conventions were started in Orangi Town. BQM had also staged a numbers of protest demonstrations against the two main ruling coalition parties of Sindh government. The identities of others injured could not be ascertained and no case was registered till filing this report.
