DID - Dissociative identity disorder

:salam2:

Is it related directly or indirectly with spiritualism?

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

indirectly

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

Not sure what the question means.

However, if the question is asked this way then the answer would be:

No connection.

Two different things.

DID is a disease with negative connotation. Spirituality has positive attributes.

People with DID/Multiple personality disorder may get help from spirituality.

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

So can we heal a person with DID through spiritual means?

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

Actually I read that scoring higher on the measure of spirituality and ego strenght both cause DID. That is why I asked if there is any direct or indirect relations, cause or its effects on it.

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

so you are saying that if a person is highly spiritual or highly egoistic, he/she will have higher tendency to have DID/MPD?

Were there any particular reasons given for this conclusion? I like to read them since it's new/surprising for me.

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

In Pakistan mostly aged womens says to each other that ‘Acha bhala Namaaz parhta tha pata nahi ab kiyon bauwla hogiya hy’ something like that. Don’t know how spirituality cause DID or not at all :hmmm:

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

There are some evidences to it.

Depends how it was defined. DID is still considered as a pathological or diseased condition.

This could be that someone with disturbed mind in the beginning tries to get involved in religious or spiritual activities but the condition is not properly treated and later shows as full blown disease.

For observers, it appears the person was fine but after religious or spiritual activities the person became lunatic or Baowla.

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

Oh I must say, some irreligious people when read about religions do become baowlay. :D

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

I know someone who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder but when she is in the phase she becomes a totally different person. She starts talking in cryptic manner. She becomes physically strong. She also exhibits signs of G*****ose delusion. I don’t know if its close to spirituality but when in that phase she freaks me out.

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

Hain why is it bleeping

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

Sounds like my chachi in Pakistan, but her case there was no DID diagnosis…they say it was jinn/bhooth ke asar :bummer:

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

Queer saab! yehi to I wanna know :@:

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

I think being non sprirtual is related to identity disorder

When you are spiritual, you discover your true nature, your talents and skills, your true potential, your self worth.

I guess it's about perspective too. For instance, Prophet Mohammad (saw) was a multi dimensional being. He was a judge, a teacher, a spritual physician, a physical physician, a philanthropist, a healer, a reformer, a strategist, a mediator, a businessman, an advisor, a community bulider, a friend, etc

But initially many people in Mecca thought that Mohammad was an eccentric person, some thought he was out of his mind, others thought he was a magician. Some nicer ones suggested that he was nothing but a delusional poet (naozubillah).

Re: DID - Dissociative identity disorder

In field of psychology there are serious questions about DID or even if it is a disorder at all (it is still listed on DSM). I remember one of my professor telling us that he has never met anyone with MPD in his entire life as a practicing psychologist. However, from what I have read, DID does exists & its shaped by cultural/religious influence from culture to culture (possession by demons/jins/ghosts, etc). In cultures where mental disorders are not well understood, spiritual explanation may very well make sense.
