Did anyone have a Down's syndrome screening test?

Re: Did anyone have a Down’s syndrome screening test?

I think everyone agrees that amnio and CVS have risk factors, just like any other invasive test.

But on the other hand, in my opinion, the blood test and the nuchal translucency test don’t have risk factors and do provide some information. Remember, they won’t provide a diagnosis, but more of a risk stratification so if they’re low-risk, that’s great, but if, Allah forbid, it comes back as medium or high risk, that puts the parents in the spot of trying to figure out whether they want to pursue more testing or not.

I think all parents are different. Just like some don’t want to know the sex of the baby and some do, this is a personal decision.

the nuchal translucency ultrasound needs to be done between after 11 weeks and before 14 weeks. I think CVS needs to be done prior to 14 weeks too, so if that is something parents would be interested in pursuing, make sure the nuchal translucency ultrasound is scheduled a bit on the earlier side.
