I know it was a movie, but it did have a lot to do with relationships than with the movie itself, so if it can stay here, great.
For those who haven’t seen it, “Diary” is about a woman whose husband of 18 years suddenly dumps her for another younger woman. The previews do show it as somthing of a comedy but it was really more dramatic and slow moving. Anyways, so in the movie, the main character was married to a rich and successful man. People thought she had a fairy-tale life, til suddenly seh was thrown out of the house. Since she had signed a prenup prior to the marriage, she had no assets or money. Replacing her was a younger, more attractive woman. The husband had also been abusive towards her throughout the marriage, emotionally and physically. I dont’ remember the exact details, but after several months had passed, she was just starting to get her life back on track and even had a budding relationship with someone.
But then the husband was injured and he was in a coma. There was an argument between her and the gf, her wanting to keep him alive and the gf wanting to pull the plug. Ultimately, since she still had legal rights over him, he was kept alive according to her wishes. Eventualy she moved back in to help him rehabilitate, and instead of being grateful towards her, he was still as hateful and took his frustration out on her. Well, to fast forward, he did repent but only after she made him hear how much he had wronged her over the years. They started to get back on track and** I think by the end of the movie, things were looking up for the both of them, his rehabilitation was successful and they were back together.. (**then again I wasn’t paying much attentino and switched it at hte end)…
I’m not sure if the movie “romanticized” a difficult marriage somehow, by implying that even the worst of men can change with enough effort on the part of their wives. It does give an alternative solution, especially wiht the rising divorce rate these days, but by no means am I suggesting that what she did was the only solution, nor is it appropriate for everyone. But her actions did give an interesting perspective on marriage, that I thought would be useful to many who viewed the film.
