Diaper question plz !

I am due this week and getting really anxious and overwhelmed . After reading lots of newborn care books and now I am all confused :bummer: ,
a baby usually wet 8 to 12 diapers in a day , so how do I change him every time. Its winter season here so please just let me know few things,

  1. I’ll use wipes to clean the baby and wash him 2, 3 times a day?
  2. Do i need to pat him dry with tissue after using wipes or no?
  3. do I need to use baby lotion on the bum everytime i change him ?
  4. should I use vaseline jelly once or twice a day to prevent rashes ?
  5. I am only going to use nappy rash cream in case the baby got rashes ? or should i use it in routine?

dumb questions :frowning: i know .

Re: Diaper question plz !

my baby is a january baby but its not chill here so i always washed her changed her after every 3 to 4 hours, n i always used to soft towel to dry her, n thn applied baby jelly after every diaper change.

i dont think there is any need of rash cream wthout any rashes.

Re: Diaper question plz !

congrats dude

everyone is different (as you have probably ready already on here and other boards) and not one way is the 100% right way of doing things.

I think bubbas wet about 5-6 a day… didnt think it was 12. But I dunno.

In terms of washing or using wipes. That is a personal choice. I used to wipe munchkins bum and wash/bathe her once (mostly at night before putting her to sleep for the night) and i have pretty much continued that till now (and she’s 5 now Mashallah). And after wipes, no, i didnt pat her dry.

I applied rash cream on her everytime I changed her nappy. I would wipe her down completely, use extra wipes if need being. The only time i washed her extra during the day was if she had done an extremely bad number 2 or if she was leaking everywhere.

For some reason, i never used vaseline down there on her due to reading somewhere that maybe it wasnt good for girls. But, i am not 100% sure about this, so pls dont quote me

But, do what works for you. You may find that once you have bubba, you may need to wash him everytime or you may not. You may need to pay him dry or not… you may even try different rash creams. When I had munchkin, there were two.. bentadine and sudocream… One is warm one, the other cold.

See what works best for you and your bubba :k:

Re: Diaper question plz !

I would also wash my baby 3-4 times a day , not every diaper change. I gave him a bath every single day. And no you don't use anything after using wipes.. They do the job. You don't need to use anything after each diaper change unless baby has rash or something. If boy, and you opt for circumcision then you need to use vasline until its healed. Best thing to use for rash is Vitamin A&D cream. Hospitals will give you that too to use or plain vaseline.

Diaper question plz !

I used paper towels instead of wipes since wipes are cold in winters. I would wet paper towels under warm water in the sink, squeeze them and use them on my baby. I felt better using paper towel because there were no chemicals that wipes have. And they are no so good for the rashes. You do not need to make baby's bum dry with towel after using wipes. Just use some baby powder. Wipes are not soaking wet but only wet enough to clean the bum easily. I washed my baby from down under every day during bath. I would only apply lotion after bath.
It is recommended to keep the area dry so use baby powder after using wipes or washing. Rash creams like desitin didn't work for us. I used Vaseline. The basic purpose is to keep the area dry so Vaseline becomes a barrier between the skin and the moisture. Don't wait till the rash develops. If you suspect your baby is about to have a rash start applying vaseline generously during each diaper change. Use baby powder to ensure its completely dry. Dunt wait more than 3 hrs between the diaper change for the newborn. You can go a little longer gradually as baby grows. Prevention is the key. Dunt wait for the rash and use those useless creams as cure. My baby niece developed a rash and only doctor's prescription rash cream helped.

Hope that helps.
